I have a 1998. 5 24 valves automatic that died on me as I was cruising down main street at 20 miles/hour two weeks ago. I pull on the side of the road, and the thing starts right up. 1 mile later the motor ran rough, like it was running out of fuel but never stalled. It ran like this for about 1/2 a block. Than Every thing was normal.

Few days past, it died again. Same story, I turn the key and it started righ up. One week past and every thing is fine until this morning. It started and shut down 4 seconds later. Started back up went to work and at lunch time, it died again at a red light. It starts right up.

I have no codes. Oh, the dealer tells me that they never heard anything like that. But it sounded like and elect. problem.

Whats wrong with my truck? Any one have any ideals?

It would probably be important to mention that fuel pressure is always above 10 psi, I have the oversize bango bolts and that I have no performance enhancement.

My truck has been acting up when I was raising the levels on my power box. Twice with the box on low settings normal driving the truck died while I was driving but, I had codes pop up both times. The truck is in the shop and if you want I'll let you know what they tell me. I know my truck is set up a little different from yours but maybe it is some thing stupid.

Yep,I would realy appreciate it, if you would let me know what caused this on your truck.

Thanks.

Reading different post yesterday, I decided to recalibrated the APPS last night.

I got my truck back today and they told me to run the truck with the box out of the truck and see if it does any thing. They think it is something in the box, so I am sending the box to TST to inspect it. If I have any problems with the box out, I'll let you know. How did you recalibrate the APPS?

I had a '99 that spent many days in the shop over this exact issue. It would just die for no real reason. The dealer blamed it on everything from bad fuel to interference with the truck's computer from nearby cell phones, but it never did get fixed. Personally I think it was bad software on the ECM causing something similar to a windows 'blue-screen-of-death' and resetting it (key off and then back on) made it run again until the next time.

Anyway, I hope you find a solution to this that works for you. I solved this issue as well as bad steering and crummy brakes by selling the truck... :(

Good Luck,

Mike

You reset the APPS buy disconecting the batteries for at least 45 minutes.

Reconnect the batteries, turn the ignition on without starting the truck, push the accelarator pedal slowly in and fully. Than release it slowly, than turn the ignition off. Your done.
