My truck has a little over 10300 miles on it and today a I went out and started it up and I did'nt glance at the oil pressure, but in seconds the warning ding ding went off and it said to check gauges and the oil pressure was on 0, so I immedatiely shut it down and waited a moment, then started it back up and everything was fine and stayed that way for the 150 miles home. Anybody got any ideas about this, should I be at the dealer tommorrow or was it just a fluke? Could it be a bad sending unit?? All comments greatly appreciated... gary

It's unlikely that the oil pump would not work one minute, then start working the next. But it could also be a bypass valve sticking in the filter, or the oil pressure regulating valve sticking closed.

Only way to be sure is to hook an auxilliary gauge up to the filter port and monitor it.

I thought the new motors didn't have an oil pressure guage that registered on the dash, But the guage was controlled by the ECM which gave out a reading on the guage based on engine rpm. Please correct me if I am wrong. I would much prefer a sending unit reading myself.

This is apparently true. The sending unit is a switch. If pressure in the main oil rifle runs below 6psi, the gauge needle will peg at "0" and a check engine / check gauges light will illuminate.

yeah that would be a good idea, if nothing else if something DOES end up happening, at least you have documentation that you tried to tell them something was wrong wether they do something about it or not. Just a good way to cover your rear in the future :)
