In their (well deserved) 2003 Truck of the Year Award to Dodge Ram HD, Motor Trend states that only the low-pressure turbodiesel is available in California. Does that mean that California Rams don't have the new high-pressure common rail system? Or did they really mean only Standard Output is available in California?

Dodge attributes the quieter 2003 engine to the new high-pressure common rail system. I test drove one in California, and it did sound much quieter, so I question Motor Trend's statement.

Anyone have any idea what Motor Trend meant by "low-pressure"? I sure hope my 3500 4X4 Quad SRW (due to be delivered next month) includes new the high-pressure common rail system.

Bob, you are correct... California only gets the SO model, not the HO right now. But it is still the redesigned common rail injection.

Kalifornia does not even get an SO We get a de tuned SO 235/460  instead of 250/460. Find a friend or relative anywhere else and register it at there address. and get the HO 305/555. Oo.

I don't think the writers know much about real trucks.

I wonder if Cummins has taken a step "backwards" ;) . In the chart on the back of the article, they say this engine is a two-valve-per-cylinder config  .

Most of the things the article stated, look like they were just paraphrased from the brochures. There were about zero enthusiastic comments thrown in to show any hint of excitement. However, they rave on-and-on about the Durahack. Their objectiveness is quite transparent. I doubt they'll select the Cummins to do their one-year test with, rather opting for the Hemi. They'll never learn.

Start a Rumor

Since Ford owns Cummins:D

General Motors owns Motor Trend:rolleyes:

Seems like whenever I flip the channels Motor Trend is testing anything but a Chrysler product.

davidc ford does not own cummins I had a memo back in 1997 that cummins bought back most all there shares. They kept a fews shares so the could put the 24 value engine in some of there medium duty trucks. Greg:D
