i am wanting to mount my cobra 25 st w/nw where my exsisting crummy cupholder is. can this be done? i noticed that some guys have done this, looks like they filled in the rest of the space with one of those "blank plates" from marks custom stuff? any thoughts? who's all done this and how? thanks for the info.

This is what I did in my 01, I know the dash is a little different, in mine I had the useless little junk collector pouch where I put the radio.

It came out pretty good and really the picture don't do it any justice.

I was going to do that with my cobra 29 NW ST, but when I got the cupholder out and started taking measurements it became apparent that it wasn't going to fit due to the curve of the dash. So, I mounted mine right on top of the dash infront of the steering wheel area. Works great, nice and easy to see. Burning the bolt holes through the dash made for some good pucker factor though.

I wouldn't bet my nuts on it, but I would guess that my radio is as big or bigger than the cobra 29. I had to use a 90 degree coax connector and do alot of frogging around with the mount but the beauty of the whole thing was that the only thing destroyed or altered or drilled was the gray plastic covering. I figured I could go to a junk yard and get one if I ever take the radio out

My Cobra 25 WX NW ST is in place of my old POS cupholder. It wasn't too difficult but it took some trimming. I just pulled the cupholder and cut away some of the old mounting bracket. When you get the cup holder out you'll see what needs to come out. I used a rasp and a coarse file to make space. You won't need to trim any of the visible dash trim, just some plastic inside that you don't need anyway.

In my case I ended up with a hole just big enough to get the radio in but the bottom edge would always hook the remaining plastic inside the dash. So I stuffed a big piece of shimstock under the radio, slid the radio in then removed the stock (make sense?). In the end it was a tight enough fit to hold the radio in without any further fasteners. I still plan to cut some stainless to fill in on each side of the radio.

Looks pretty good, I can email pictures if you want.

Just installed mine over the weekend. I took out the little compartment(2 screws) I actually used a piece of plywood and covered it with some outdoor carpet. I actually used the back of the carpet because it matches the interior pretty good. Then mounted my cb to it. I really like it.

Here's what I did with mine. One of these days I will make some pics of how it is mounted inside. I did it in such a way that in about 15 minutes I could have the original cubby hole piece back in and you would never know a cb or scanner had been there.

I think that's the best use of the '96 cupholder I've ever seen. I hated that in my '96.

I know you don't care about the 3rd gen, but I put my CB in the pocket... Gonna show you anyway... (PS, don't ever buy a RS CB, they STINK!)

RobbieH, i agree about the crummy cupholders that were used from 94-97. cb looks good in your truck. ive put too much money into my cobra 25 to trade it in for something smaller..... ill take your advice on the rat shack cb... .

Hey Curtis ... where you got your guage ... I'm thinking of putting the rear window slider switch there. How do you get access to it? I see that the plastic dash "trim" looks like it comes off. I don't want to bust it.

BTW, the swithces ... yo baby!

Not sure how gitchesum did it but I mounted a piece of stainless in my cubby with 4 switches in it.

I just fitted the piece to have a mild interferance fit with the outer trim. The wires are run through a hole I drilled in the back of the cubby. No screws, looks clean.

Can send pics if you want.
