A little reluctant to ask what looks like a stupid question, particularly with my years of experience utilizing various fasteners, methods and systems in the construction & automotive trades, but offhand, I can't come up with a satisfying way to mount my NW Custom mudflaps. Anybody out there already got a set mounted on a dually? Did you fabricate hangers? Bolt the flaps straight to holes drilled in the fenders? Use big rig flap hangers?

While aware that the outside fender is fiberglass, the inner, original steel fender appears to have enough room to hold two bolts in the top of the flaps. But two hardly seem enough, these flaps are heavy!

My 3500 came with flaps so I can't help you on a Ram, but have added and repaired flaps on many other rigs and one thing I can tell you is make sure that they can rip off easily in case you back up over a rock, pothole or curb. Better that the flap rips at the bolt holes rather than pulling the fender off. Three or four small fasteners are best.

The flaps have a big strip of metal at the top, so if anything goes, if and when I back over a rock or something, it's gonna be my fenders that bite the big one, and not the flaps. I may go look at the hangers at the big rig shop tomorrow, see if they can be modified, or if I can make my own, and thereby hang 'em off the frame of the truck. The truck springs' overload bump stops are in the way of mounting such a hanger, without welding up an extension that has a couple of compound angles in it...

I bought mine at a place in GA. Black with stainless anti sail bars on each side of the flap with the stainless reflector at the bottom.

The mouting bracket bolted to the inside fender, made a 90 and came to the outside. Used three big self tampers across the long side of it. No problems yet.

All my photos are larger than 32k so I can't enclose one. If you need a look let me known and I can send one direct to your e-mail

address.

Gitch to the rescue.

Actually, this is the way mine are mounted. Not sure how the extra weight will affect it though. I think the extra bolt on the end will take care of that problem though.

Thanks, Gitch, I think I can work from the pics, make my own angle brackets. The way you have the end of the angle iron fastened to the inside fenderwell of the truck bed, that's exactly where the flaps need some extra support.

He works for an oil company, illflem, probably drives through puddles of it every day. If that ain't oil, it's roadkill gator splatter... . :D

Yeah Bill, it's on my to-do list. We discovered that when we were installing the rails for the 5th wheel hitch.

Hey Tom, it's armadillo guts now.
