I moved my oil puke tube yesterday from between the fan and the engine to the frame rail beside the transmission. Today, I looked at the arrangement while I was waiting for my turbo to cool after pulling about 20 miles of interstate, unloaded. I saw this yucky steam-like crap flowing out of the holes in the collector bottle. Is this normal? Is this what's been happening all along (and coating my engine with nasty grease, grime, and sludge)? Or is this a symptom that something is wrong in my engine?

Prior to moving the bottle, I had about 3/4" of oil in the bottom of the bottle in about 10,500miles, if that matters.

Any help is appreciated.

Yep, normal.
If you ever get around a big rig and see a hose that hangs there smoking or steaming its the same thing we have only bigger, in gasoline engines this is recovered by the PCV (positive crancase ventilation) valve and sucked into the airfilter again, this also happens with the california trucks.
But dodges infinate wisdom has let it coat the entire front of our trucks with sludge, good job on relocating, I wouldnt change mine back either, smells alot better inside the cab!

700, regarding the CA trucks... Are you thinking of the EGR on the 94-98 12-valve engines? I am pretty sure that all the Cummins-powered Dodges have open crankcase systems with no PCV valves. Just checking...

Howdy JJ,i have a 981/2 24 valve, same thing, cummins is a great power plant however it does have a peuking problem,i have a bottle on my breather tube aswell,i am thinking of installing an air sep check it out,web site is walkerairseo.com good luck jdm joe

Anyone have a good link or way to move the
oil puke tube? I would like to move it because the front of my engine is getting grimy with the oil puke.

Thanks in advance,
Charles

I used a double barb 3/4" connector and 15' of 3/4" clear hose. It exits at the rear of the truck. I noticed on a cold day no one gets too close at stop lights because of the constant flow out the back #ad
