Hey guys,

I moved 6 months ago to Portland and need to get established with a good diesel mechanic I can trust. I don't do any of my own work, but know my way around my Cummins. I've had the same diesel tech for the last 10 yrs with over 25 yrs of experience. So, trust is a biggy for me.

I appreciate the help.

X2 - you wont be disappointed at Source Automotive. Even if you don't have any work done at their shop, they will spend their precious time helping you understand the issues and the solutions. If Rip is busy, Bill is also a great guy to talk to. Robert is their trans guru and he will spend time with you even if you ask him a million dumb questions and one good one... When my trans needs rebuilding, I am going here...

One of my friends is a master technician for anything diesel. He can build or repair anything and he had his transmission rebuilt at Source and now he just smiles when I ask him how his truck is doing. He did alot of investigation work and priced things out and determined it was just easier to have it done at a reputable shop.

For fuel and oil filters (Fleetguard), I go to the Cummins distributor on Swan Island.

For air filters and other miscellaneous Dodge stock parts, I go to Gresham Dodge (used to go to Timberline, but they went out of business during the 2nd Great Depression of 2009). Gresham Dodge is good about pricing on stock parts.

For oil (Valvoline Premium Blue), I go to Schucks.

For PS Diesel Kleen, I go to Walmart.

Hope this helps,

Louis

Thanks Guys. I'm really glad to be a part of TDR. Like I mentioned before, as I know you all must be, I am really anal about my truck. I will confess that I'm not the gal that is under the hood of it however. That work I leave to do on my ol' VW. Having a tech that I can really trust will set my mind at ease when I'm trekkin' cross country with the trailer.

P. S. I did mention the recommendation came from the TDR gang!
