Thought I'd share... Taylored Productions made a very good movie about my grandparents and their role in WWII. Here's a link: http://www.tayloredproductions.com/home.htm
The movie is called "Through Hell and High Water", so click on any of the links. There are a couple of video clips, and visit "Press" and "Articles" too. It has been shown all over Europe, including on the History Channel, and a few weeks ago premiered here in Seattle (or Ballard, more accurately, "land of the Norwegians", lol). There should be a second showing locally, and it may also be on the History Channel in the US.
Story goes something like this: My grandmother (Nancy Kelly) was born on an Island in Norway, and lived under Nazi occupation for 4 years as a teenager. At the end of this time, the Nazis were forcing the Norwegians to evacuate (after burning their towns and homes to the ground), moving them south. About 500 Norwegians opted to flee and hide, with my grandmother winding up living in a cave smaller than most folk's kitchens with several other people for 3 months in the dead of winter.
My grandfather (A. H. "Scotty" Kelly) served on a British battleship escorting supply convoys going to Mermansk, Russia, in support of the Allied forces. During one of these runs, an evacuation of Norwegians was put into place, with the British navy going in to pick up as many as possible. Families were divided as some chose to stay and some chose to leave; my grandmother was one of the latter. After picking up the refugees, the convoy continued to Russia.
Before they were able to get back safely to Scotland, the ship my grandmother was on was torpedoed by a Nazi U-boat, and my grandfather's ship was called in for the rescue. Survival time for people in the water was less than 4 minutes, with temps below -40 degrees!
They saved everyone from that boat, and that's how they met.
There's a lot more, but I'll leave it at that for now. Pretty cool story...
