Auto vs manual crank

more on counterfeit air filters

A '16 what? You are so abrupt:eek::) I don't care to read a book, but jeez...Since you run 3500's and haul heavy, I would assume 3500 dually pickup or cab chassis.

I went from a '01 2500 6spd with 370K, still a perfect truck, to a '21 2500 w/auto. Would not go back. I do miss the control of the manual transmission, hauling heavy, off highway.

I recommend reading the Buyers Guide on all the years near 2016. Unlimited info there.

Also, don't be afraid to look at new trucks. The price difference might surprise you when you factor in a full warranty, no abuse that a used one might have and the ability to get what you want. New prices are way down this month. Generally, you will need to compromise with used, they won't be exactly what you want.

This one is a cab and chassis 3500 . I looked at a few new ones but they are more than i can spend . I am little concerned about all the emissions garbage on one this new I assume it will have def and all the wonderful stuff that goes with it

Definitely an upgrade.

I agree with @NIsaacs and would look into new again as the prices are down and the benefits of new are pretty good.

Don’t be afraid of DEF, these emissions systems would be far worse without it.

I'd never had emissions problems with diesels. Maybe it's how I drive, where I get my DEF from, or the fuel I use. The work 2020 Cummins SO I drive almost every single day has over 200k on it, and gets dealer serviced. No problems ever with it. Prior to that I was driving a 2014 Cummins, and I got that up past 275k. Before that I drove a 2008 Pre-DEF Cummins and other than frequent regens, it never had issues either.

Gassers on the other hand, I could never get any of them to last beyond 75k without emissions problems.

I'm sold on diesels and their emissions systems these days.

You are lucky . I was a truck mechanic in a previous life and usually the emissions problems weren’t awful they were always a pain with sensors and dpf filters clogging and needing cleaned or replaced and it seemed like a light was always on in the dash for something or another . Hopefully I will have as good as luck as you have with my personal truck

I was looking at the buyers guldes I wonder why they stopped? I did see a service bulletin I could buy that might be handy

If you don't have a TDR subscription, you won't be able to view the buyers guides. That's the side benefit to having a TDR subscription.

Yes you can purchase them, might want to look at that cost vs. 1 yr subscription? I keep renewing to have access to quarterly mag with TSB list, plus some of the back issues since I got my 2014 in 2018. Missed a few issues with valuable info! The help that I've gotten from the forum and mags has been priceless! Thanks to all on and behind the scenes of TDR! :D

from 1998 to 2016 there is a huge amount of technology upgrades! In comfort, safety and power. No way would I consider it a downgrade; however the 2016 is a much more complicated system! Good luck with your decision.

other than emissions systems codes anf problems I think it’s a good upgrade . Kind of like buying a new tractor it’s not worth the hassle had a brand new tractor rented for harvest ran 2 days then through a def code dealer said bad def pumped all the def on the ground the same def that came out of the same tank that went in three combines and 7 other tractors but did it anyway and changed a sensor and it was ok again

im kinda scared about it all

I was too, still am sometimes. When I hear a chime or see a light come on...

When you test drive it, be sure and go into the dash display and check for stored codes and oil/fuel filter life. Change all the fluids/filters, unless you have records.

That looks like a cowboy truck, make sure it is stock, or if not, that you are aware.

You will love how the exhaust brake/auto transmission work together. I recommend auto mode.
