Anybody put an MP3 player in their trucks? I have been downloading lots of MP3's off kazaa, and would love to be able to burn them on to disc and play in the truck. I am using software to convert them to audio files now, but it would be cool to be able to put 100+ songs on a disc. Plus i've been wanting to upgrade the whole sound system in the truck anyway. May as well start with a new deck i guess. Anyone have a suggestion as to brands or models.

I just got an Alpine 9807 in my truck. It's very cool not having to change CD's all the time.

My musical taste is... ... ... ... well, it different. My wife gets a headache just looking at the songs on my CD's:D

Everything from Kid Rock to Willie Nelson. Even a Kid Rock and Willie Nelson duet. #ad

It even made the junk factory speakers sound bearable. It's got pre-amps for subs and front and rear speakers if you plan on installing an amplifier.

Cost was less than $300.

i've been eyeing those new cd changers that are avalable that play mp3 straight off the disc w/o conversion. sony has a 10 disc fm modulated one [i wonder if it also has preouts?] for like $220 usd [$299 cdn msrp] that looks like a good solution. i'd like to take all the cd's i have and rip 256kbs mp3 out of them and burn them all on 80min cdr's... could hold many many cd's there... :)

I went with the Panasonic MXE. Being able to play MP3s is great, one CD with 120 + songs, with the ability to create folders and sub-folders. One CD last hours like having your own personal radio station. The only problem I've run into is the quality of the mp3 you can down load off the net. Some really suck.

Thanks for the info guys, that gives me some ideas to explore. The changer idea sounds cool. I might check in to that alpine deck. I think i want to do the whole stereo at the same time. research time i guess.

I run a JVC KD-LH 2000 cd/mp3 player. It has some nice graphics, is very adjustable, and the cost was pretty good too. I think Crutchfield had it on sale a couple of months ago, it may still be listed on their website.

my brother just bought marantz and denon electronic companies. this should all get a lot easier in the home at least. very soon.

I haven't thought about putting one in the truck yet , but these Motorola cell phones I've been looking at have an optional mp3 player.

nickleinonen: Do you have a part # for that there Sony 10-disc MP3 changer? I have yet to find a changer or head unit that I like enough to think about purchasing.

Some of the light shows these things have are a bit annoying - but you have to deal with it to get all the features I want.

I had a lot of problems with my old (circa 1997) Pioneer... it was the top of the line model that didn't flip down. The contacts for the faceplate would get dirty and then before I knew it... . a lot of the buttons on the faceplate wouldn't work.

I just tried to fix a buddy of mine's Kenwood motorized faceplate head unit - the ribbon cable setup on the 'window shade' style retraction setup had finally pooped the bed and rendered the head unit useless. I didn't even try to order just the cable... .

All these motorized head unit/faceplate failures are making me lean towards using the OEM Chrysler head with an FM modulated changer.....

I can't be picky about sound quality - afterall, I wouldn't be able to tell the difference in the truck anyhow... .

Thanks in advance,

Matt

Pioneer

I put in a Pioneer Premier DEH-P550MP. It'll play . mp3's . wma files and it's XM radio ready. It's my second Pioneer and I've been real happy with both. Plenty of flexibility for adding other speakers and EQ control.

Take Care

I just bought an Alpine CDA 7998

this thing is too sophisticated for me, but I have it under control!! It looks like this:

Holeshot:

It retails for ~$800... . I got it for $755 Tax included. . Anytime I go to events, I advertise for the people who hook me up with all my Car Audio Stuff. . It's a two way road, so I like to take care of them as much as I can... know what I mean??

-Chris-

I love it!! The only thing is that I get the guilty conscience that I could get some more BOMBs for the truck... Well worth the $$ though...

Don't feel bad, Charlan.

I dropped $2000 into my system, not counting the $300 alarm installed at the same time. My setup includes: Alpine CDA-7893 head unit, MB Quart 6-inch component front speakers, Eclipse 5. 5-inch 2-ways in the rear doors, an Alpine 360-watt 4-channel amp for the front channels, plus two JL Audio 10-W3 subs under the back seat with 700 watts going to them, plus an Alpine XM radio setup(my head unit is XM-ready with built in tuner).

What can I say? When you have a loud truck you gotta have the loud tunes:D
