Check out the Cap that reduces drag by 30% and increases mileage by 3 MPG. The link is on the second page of Certified Mileage post. It will be here soon I hope.

I could make this out of ply board but I dont think I could get real good rounded corners. Does anyone have any other ideas on materials to make this. Are there place who make custom fiberglass thing like this and what about plastic. The only other thing I can think of might be Aluminum.

JPonder - I hope that if you're planning on putting that monstrosity (hehehe #ad
) on your truck, that you'd only do so for the fuel mileage investigation. Any top of that sort looks very user unfriendly, not to mention bu-t ugly.

Since everybody else listed their toys, I will too.

Maybe it'll Grow on ya!!!! Its just a toneau with a slant!!!!!! It looks like they connected it right to the back of the cab after all the truck didnt have to move right. I geuss you could connect it with one of those rubber gaskets. Wonder how much of that 30% drag reduction you would lose if it was not connected?

Dont be shy Come on with it!!!!

Jponder, sorry about the slow post. Something to do about kids, vacation, a birthday party etc. Here's the url for the cap the two students worked on and pictures to boot. Enjoy. Http://mars. acnet. wnec. edu/~ehaffner/did.htm
Ps, as for construction of the cap, you might try it the way the kitplane builders do, with foam core board and fiberglass. You can basically shape the cap with foamcore board and then put a couple of layers of glass over it. Gives you great strength to weight. Probably build a mold of plywood, and lay it up from there. Also, As I recall, one of the campershell companies made a cap called a "fastback" that had a similar taper to what the kids did. Might want to look in to it. Possibly leer, but my memory might be wrong

It would be interesting to see to see them use a REAL truck instead of a model!

Cool I went to http://www.snugtop.com and i saw it. I could live with it if it did indeed make my trug more drag efficient but this is pretty different than the one in the test. My Uncle built an Aluminum camper back in the 40s and I think Aluminum would be the way to go.

Scooby - If you're talking about the model in the fluid (water?) tank, I had the same thought. I wonder how it would come out with a real truck (QC or EC) in a wind tunnel. Hmmmm.
