Got back last Monday evening from a 12 day trip to Colorado. What an experience! Spent 8 days at a cabin at 8,000 feet. Snowed 3 times, morning temp ranged from 26 to 42, afternoon high from 52 to 70. Never slept better in my life.

Worked on everything from a weedeater to a Tucker Sno-cat. Took every tool I own plus axes, splitting wedges, sledge hammer, chain saw, 2 ton come-a-long, 3 chains, high-lift jack, 40 gallons of water, 20 gallons of fuel, food for eleven and a grubbing hoe. My truck normally grosses at 7500 pounds loaded with fuel and me in it. I weighed at a truck stop just outside of Waco, and grossed in at 9720 pounds!

Went 2683 miles on 148. 3 gallons of fuel. That figgers to be a shade over 18 MPG. I love these trucks! First trip in the '99 3500 and loved every minute of it.

Hey Big John,

Love that Colorado high country!!

As soon as I head the truck north on US 287, it's like turning the horse to the barn--drop the reins and it knows where to go!!

The Cummins really shines with a load and the open road!!

What was the grubbing hoe for? I didn't think anyone still had or knew what one was... .

Bill

Bill, the grubbing hoe was for loosening a bunch of rock around the cabin. Moved 4 loads on the 3500; all she wanted each time. Used rock to fill in holes in the road. Had plenty of help and time.

I have always thought I was made for the high country. I have 140% of the lung capacity for the average man my size. Never had a problems hiking in the mountains. My Dad always took us to Rocky's for vacation. A strong set of legs and good stride serves me well up there. Probably hiked around 80 miles in 8 days just taking day trips from the cabin. Great location in the West Elk Wilderness of the Gunnison National Forest. Plan on living there in a few years, good Lord willin'.
