06 advice

Block Heaters 101

I just recently bought a 06 3500 Mega Cab, auto, 35" toyo m/t's, 2" leveling kit. I'm only getting around 11mpg in town. I got 2200 miles on it now. I got 14. 7 driving from Idaho to S. W. Washington. (about 300 miles) since then it hasn't gotten up to that even on the freeway. I look at the overhead mpg and it's the same as when I calculate it myself. I have a friend that has a 06 quad cab 2500 with auto and 35" bfg's. He is getting around 19 highway and with a flashpaq superchip he is getting 21.

any idea's

Have some of the same problem myself. I hear a reflash may help. Something about the truck made before july 06. My truck was made 1/06.

ok thanks, I heard the same thing about the reflash. My buddy said he will do that at the first oil change. 4k to go... lol...

I also don't know if all trucks or what?? I read something about ETC and ETH. I guess this is lettering on the motor?? Don't know if that is important or not . Can't find that lettering so not sure . Maybe some one will tell us.

BOB V, Forgive me for asking a stupid question. How do you adjust the calculation for lager tires. I have 305/R17's. I know they're not "35's", but I also know they're not stock? Beleive it or not, I am serious.

The easiest way I know of is to figure the % your odometer is off. My 35 where 10% larger than the stock tires and also made my odometer 10% off. I then take the total miles on the odometer for that tank and multiplied it by 1. 1 (110% of the miles driven) to get the actual miles driven, then divide by the gallons for the fill up.

If you know what size the stock tires where you can get close figuring the difference between the two. This will only get you close as all the different tires manufactures are a little different in height for the same "size" tire. Do you know the aspect ratio of you 305s? As in 305/70-17????

To figure tire size

Width= size/25. 4 305/25. 4= 12"

Height=2X size X aspect ratio / 25. 4 + rim size.

For a 305/70-17

2X305X. 70/25. 4+ 17=33. 8"

On my 94 I changed from 245-65-16 to 265-75-16. That made about 3% difference. So I added 3 miles to every 100 miles. Really didn't change thing that much. Other than I did lose 1. 5 mpg because of wider tires.

Thanks. Great information. I do have the 305/70-17's as it turns out. I know my MPG isn't 11, but I'd like to know. I thought it was about 16 city, and 20 highway, but thats before the recalc...
