I'm on the fence about ditching the elusive 33" tires on my 18 inch wheels for the 35" Toyo MT. What kind of mileage drop have you experienced with 35's? Thanks.

With fuel on the rise I wouldn't do it. I'm going back down to 305's (33's) if not 285's (32's) once I wear out my current 315's(35's). I lost about 1mpg or a little more when I went to them, however I was running a 255/85/16 (33x10. 5x16) and went to a 315/75/16 (35x12. 50x16)

I had 285's on my truck when I bought it, and on long road trips I would get 19. 5 mpg highway, and about 16 in town.

With the setup in my sig. I'm getting 18 max on the highway, 15 in town.

The above figures are hand-calc. My overhead told me I was doing 21 mpg the other day on the freeway at 70. Yeah, right.

Do you have any pics of your truck? That is the setup I'm leaning towards, but there is just too much money involved to end up unhappy or disappointed. I already have 18" wheels so I don't really know if I need the Welds, but they do look nice. I could handle maybe a 1mpg loss but thats about all.

Mark...

Are you correctly compensating for the larger OTD ? What factor are you using from the OE size ? I actually picked up some mpg with my new LT33x12. 50R17 Mastercraft Courser C/T's after a dealer performed the re-flash for the pinion factor.

Greg

My fuel economy decreased by about 1. 5 MPG when I switched to 35 inch M/T tires from the factory 265 Michelins. I am also running 10 psi lower tire pressure.

Note: MPG hand calculated, odometer calibrated correctly and confirmed with GPS.

I would have thought I would get better MPG with the reduced RPM too Greg, but it didn't happen. When I do my milage I figure it like this.

Miles on the trip meter x . 13 (for a 13% difference) add that together and divide the total # of miles by the # of gals I put in the tank. That's the way I found to figure out the mileage on the TDR a while back. It was some mathematical way and my 33's I had on my white truck = 10% and the 35's I have on this truck = 13% hell I may be wrong... . it wouldn't be the first time but I'm only getting 15mpg if I can keep my foot out of it with a lot of smoke from JR's DV's. :-laf I need to reinstall my rackstop to limit some smoke. With going back down to 33's and getting a bigger turbo here soon I figure (HOPE) it will jump up to 17-19mpg during summer. We'll see. :(

I'm taking some pics this weekend, but for now click on the link and scroll down to the pics of the trucks. Mine looks exactly like these:

Does this sound correct?

If there is a 13% difference in tire diameter, it should take 13% more torque to turn it. To get 13% more torque, you need to push the throttle farther. Pushing the throttle farther=more fuel=less mileage.

Sweet. Let me know when you get some pics, I have seen those pics on KOREs website, but there is no point of reference to get a good idea of the actual size. I have been trying to find some pics of this setup with no luck. I'm kind of surprised because I know many people are running it. I know once I put all that money in my truck, I will be more than willing to show it off! :D

Just wondering. Would your mileage be better with 35"s and 4. 10's or 35"s and 3. 73's with the automatic trans?

I feel the truck would be happier with 4. 10s. The overall ratio would be almost exactly the same as a truck with stock tires and 3. 73's. Right now my theoretical ratio is around 3. 42 or so.

JC, My whole wheel- tire ordering saga is in limbo today waiting on your pics to be uploaded by TDR. :D I want to see the wheels in actual photos before I pull the trigger (since I already have 18's). If they don't get the pics up soon, would you mind emailing them to me?? Thanks.

I tried to upload them yesterday, but they were too big. I'll email 'em.
