I just put my second tank of diesel in my truck and I got 19. 5 MPG. The truck has 38,xxx. It is a 4X4 with 3. 55. This is a lot better then what I got with my 1997 gaser (14-15). Just thought I would share.

Michael, thats about on time for a good running '99. You didn't say which transmission you had but it really doen't make alot of difference. Thats the same as I get on the highway, 19. 5 to 20. Regards Pete

son. . of. . a. . b****!!

why am i getting 16. 5? i'm not a lead foot... . crap! i was expecting close to 20... no foolin'. maybe unrealistically. time for an exhaust and injectors... . heard that helps.

oh, yeah... . '98. 5; auto transmission; 3. 5x.

Americana... you are way too close to HVAC to not go see him. There are hundreds of factors in mpg figures. Tire size, intercooler clamps loose, etc, etc. Call him or go to your nearest Ram meeting and get some ideas thrown at ya.

psst... . rob... . yeah, you, rob..... got a coupla grand i can borrow? #ad
heck... . got a coupla grand i can have? while i'm at it... how 'bout a pony too?!

i've got a wish list, but i've got to sell three motorcycles and a 65 mustang to buy a house and hot rod the ram... .

i know there are things i need to have to realize an improvement, but funds are tight right now...

oh, by the way, 1976 freshly restored Moto Guzzi LeMans, 1999 Magni Australia, 2000 Magni Sfida, 1965 restored Mustang GT Fastback... . any takers? c'mon, rob, help a bro' out!!

Americana... sorry, I'm still paying off my teenagers!
However, there are many things that you can check that cost very little or nothing. Like turbo hose clamps, fuel filter, air filter, little red cap still on your fuel tank, tire pressure, jackrabbit starts and stops, etc.

Talking to other rammers would come up with even more ideas. Try it, you will like it.

oh, i shoulda told you, rob, i'm lazy too! #ad

i hear, ya, bro. i just don't know enough about these engines yet. bought it with 19kmi and just turned 30kmi. and this weekend starts a lot of pm... . fuel filter/water seperator ($50!!! bend over and think of london!!), transmission filter, band adjustment, mag-hytec transmission pan, amsoil dual remote and new engine oil (by amsoil, of course), yadda yadda yadda.

hopefully i will come across something that shouts "you shoulda canged me earlier!" for better mpg.

americana,
I have been getting about 19-20 mpg cruising on the higway, figured the old fashioned way. In town, stop and go, getting on and off the on ramps etc etc I get about 16-17 mpg. It may not be your foot but how you are forced to drive in the Bay Area.

Americana, tighten all hoses, from the turbo. if this doesnt help, check fuel filter. then if this doesnt help, there are a coupl of refashes that can be done. two for the engine, stay away from the emissions reflash. go for the other one. I dont know the numbers. others have complainaed about the emissions reflash. I had the transmission reflashed and it seems to lock up faster, and shift faster. I also saw an overall increase of about 1. 5 mpg. I can get to a high of 26. 9 on the highway going 65 mph with no a/c on. I have done this a couple of times, just to make sure it wasnt a fluke.

My 01 HO 6spd,with 4000 miles, has an overall mileage average of 16. 5 mpgs. This is overall! Meaning all fillups divided, etc. I have gone as high as 19 and as low as 12 per tank depending on conditions. And this was figured using math and not the trip computer

My 99 QC 2wd 6speed usually gets just over 20 in mixed driving empty. What I am starting to notice is that speed/ RPM play a significant factor in mileage. For instance, last weekend with the camper on (sunlite pop-up low profile at about 1500 lbs)doing 80 on the interstate I got it down to 13 MPG. Coming back I wasn't as pressed for time and doing 65-70 I got 17. 9. Going out I ran about 2500 rpms, coming back about 2000-2100.

I am guessing there is probably a 'sweet spot' in the rpm range for mileage. I think the last TDR had some graphs on this, but I lost my collection in the move and can't verify this.

Just to let everyone know, I have run a second tank of diesel thru and came up with 21. 1 MPG. I was 2. 9 mile from having 600 miles on the tank. I just can't beleive this, the best I ever got out of my 97 gas was 16. 8, mostly I got 15. 8

Americana
Go to your local cummins dealer or Genos for the fuel filter. It's a third of the price of the Dodge garage.

Funny story... . I towed a load of firewood from WV to my home in PA (approx 4000#'s) I got 18. 64 MPG driving 60ish. This weekend I drove to WV and back at an average of 70-75 MPH and got 17. 2 MPG running empty.

I MUST AGREE WITH VIC R, SPEED DEFINITALY MAKES A DIFFERENCE. ANY THING OVER ABOUT 70MPH WITH THE 3. 54 GEARS AND STOCK TIRES WILL START SUCKING DOWN THE FUEL. NO MATTER WHAT GEARS AND TIRES SIZE KEEP THE RPM AS CLOSE AS POSSIBLE TO ABOUT 2000 RPM GIVE OR TAKE 100. THIS IS WHERE THE CUMMINS GETS THE BEST BRAKE SPECIFIC FUEL CONSUMPTION NUMBERS.

thanks for all the tips, guys. i just fueled up last night. i took a vacation day tomorrow to finsish the amsoil dual remote and install a new fuel filter/water seperator. IF i have time i'd like to get to the transmission pan, transmission filter and transmission fluid.

i'll keep my fingers crossed, say a prayer, sprinkle chicken blood... . oops, wrong forum. (that's the old brit bike club, right?) #ad

99 4x4 auto 24mpg. I just got back from Ted Jennetty's place in Conn. On the way up I set the cruise on about 67-68 1800rpm's. Of coarse when I got there and after some minor mods we thrashed on her a bit but needless to say I am very happy with the milage. On the way home I didn't check for improvement. I was still testing the new mods!!

I'm getting 18mpg combination hwy and city empty. With a gcwr of 14000+ lbs, I'm getting between 12 and 14. I'm pretty satisfied. It seems to be getting more consistent mpg averages,as it breaks in.
