NYS DOT gone crazy

anyone using JT's strong arm jack stabilizer????

Just got back from touring the UP of Michigan. I have to say the secenry was very impressive especially the colors this time of year. Anyway, I was pleasently surprised with the getting an average of 17. 8 MPG with the Lance in back. Did most of the trip (980 miles) at 55 MPH, only 65 MPH on I43 for 100 miles or so..... :D

Thats better MPG than I would have thought you would get. My brother just bought a full size slide in and will be taking it to wyoming soon. I will follow with my 06 and a 25ft trailer we will see who gets the better mileage.

Just got back from an 11,000 mile round trip to Alaska. We averaged 13. 9 MPG going and 14. 5 MPG coming. The engine was not broke-in on the going side. The camper is large and heavy, plus my wife had to take so much stuff, including a toaster, two electric coffee pots, an iron, food to feed an army and cloths for all seasons, not to mention the shoes.

Unless I am driving into a very strong head wind, like I did in March heading out to Vegas, I get 14. 5 mpg. That trip, I was getting 10-11 mpg driving 65 mph. Could have been winter blend fuel contributing to lower mpg also.

I typically get 11-12 with my 5th wheel.

Weight appears to be less of a factor. Wind resistance seems to affect MPG the most.

i know its not a pop-up, but its the same theory... my flat bed has a big wall on it, and 55mph is a nice 12. 8mpg, 59 is 10ish and 65 is 8 or less... .

That is what I get. 15 to 18 mpg at 55 to 65 mph. Wind is the big factor for me also unless I'm lucky enough to have a tail wind.

In March, I drove from Seattle to Bloomington, IN, and the best/worst I got was 13. 3/10. 6. I traveled I-90 most of the way. Got a lot of winter fuel along there. Then left Bloomington and drove to Southern Utah for vacation. Best/worst I got was 9. 8/15. 1. The 9. 8 was in Colorado and probably was a result of the big pulls up the pass on I-70. All my highway speeds were about 65 MPH. Haven't had the camper on for another trip since. Crusing at 55-60 would net much better fuel milage. I haul a 02 Lance 1161.

I just got back from my trip last weekend. Went to Jackson Hole, Grand Teton NP, Yellowstone, back into Idaho along the west side of the Tetons, Craters of the Moon NP, down to Boise. Of course we had to stop at the new Cabelas store in Boise for a few hours :D. Then we made our way back home via Winnemucca and I-80. Average MPG for the trip was slightly under 14. 5. Saw a low of 12. 5 and a high of 16. 4. Not bad considering the weather and driving in the mountains most of the time. Some of the areas it seems fairly flat but watching the boost gauge tells a differnt story.

I have over 100,000 miles with my Elkhorn onboard and have averaged about 15mpg over all. I've seen it as low as 13. 5 in a big headwind and as high as 16mpg when driving at 55mph. I get about 19mpg driving in rural conditions - mostly 40 to 50 mph, empty.

Just came home from a 3000 mile trip to Vegas and back. Trip there was all interstate and the trip back was all 2 lane back roads. Averaged 15. 5mpg for the trip driving 60mph on interstates and 55 the rest of the time.

I get 15-16 MPG at 55-60 MPH with my Northern Lite slide in. It's pretty streamlined and my truck is not a great mileage maker. The empty truck averages about 16. 3 MPG at 70 MPH. Gets close to 18 empty going the same speed as I do with the camper but I don't like to drive that slow empty. Towing the fifth wheel at 55-60 I get around 11 MPG.

4:10 axles and 4x4 don't make for great mileage. I have about 17K on the truck so it should be broken in by now.
