There does seem to be a fair amount of variations between trucks, but the way you drive makes the most difference.

For the best mileage, you need to start off slowly and drive by the tachometer. Keep it below 2,000 RPMs. On the highway, keeping your speed down to 55 may drive you crazy, but it will yield some amazing results for vehicles a heavy as ours.

Just got back from a 690 miles round trip at 60 MPH the milage was 20. 26 MPG hand calculated. Loaded going up empty on the return trip.

Has your speedo/odo been recalibrated for the 315's? How many miles on the truck? Otherwise, I would say you are on the low side. My '05 will get 15-17 in mixed driving, though I've never been able to break into the twenties on the rare occasion that I do a lot of empty highway driving with it. I do generally run 70-75 on the highway.

The trucks computer has been recalibrated by dodge tech. 55,XXX. The over head monitor is always reading at least 1mpg better than when I hand calc it.

My '07, 5. 9 gets 18-20mpg with a Smarty jr. I only have 9500mi on it. I know it will get better. Seems a bit low. Check your speedo against a GPS.

I have an 03. 5 have hand checked the milage with the overhead, and I rarely get below 20. 22 to 24. 5 is common running empty. However I pulled 32k gross weight across Iowa and all of Nebraska and got a whopping 8 average. Everything is stock.

I get 20-21 empty and 10-12 towing. Totally stock. Bigger tires and pushing the go-pedel down hurt milage a lot.
