Installed one of these this weekend: http://www.mtxaudio.com/caraudio/products/enclosures/thunderform.cfm#overview. Comes with 2 of their 6000 series subs, 100W class D amp driving both speakers at 0. 7 Ohms, sealed enclosure. The fit and finish are excellent, installation was a breeze, and is concealed under the rear seat on my quad cab. Bass is very tight, no resonance or rattles. There is about a 1 1/2 inch gap between the subs and the carpet. Jack still fits over on the passenger side under the rear seat. Would be easy to move to another vehicle in the future. Used a Strike dual amp power lead kit which was also excellent quality. About $500 for the sub and $140 for the power lead kit.

I was going to go with the JL Audio equivilent, but decided I didn't want to move the CD changer and strobe light control under the rear seat. Instead I'm going with the single 12" JL.

Anyone using this? General impressions?

Strobe light?????

I looked at that sub (single 12" JL), but when I read the 3rd paragraph on the first sheet of the instruction manual where it said they don't recommend use of the enclosure as a seat - well had to look elsewhere. Hope you like it.

It is a strobe light control. I have the marker lights replaced with clear lenses and use them as 4-way strobe lights. Like on cop cars and state trucks. This truck use to be used for construction.

Sky

Not a big Kicker fan. Good speaker just not a fan. Besides if I'm building a box, I would still go with JL.

I wasnt a big Kicker fan either until the Solo Barric's came out. The technology of the square sub is much better and "pounds" much harder IMO.

If I had a digital camera I would show you my set up. I managed to build a box with 2 Solo baric's under the rear seat one sub directly behind each of the front seats and a jack holder in the middle of the box. Looks very good! The 2 viper v12 amps are under the passenger seat, And I I also have a pheonix Gold amp under the drivers seat running the Boston Pro's. I need to install one more amp for the rears but I am running out of room for amps.

I have the 12" center seat sub from JL Audio. It is great, and unlike the dual 10" version that goes under the back seat, you dont lose any storage space with this one. It is real easy to put in, and i put the Amp and CD Changer under the passenger seat right next to it. I have a 300watt amp powering it and it will blow you out of the truck. JL Audio is top of the line too. MacTruck has one also,

EMD, Thanks for the info.

Sky, Can you barrow one I'd like to see the install. Also what your airspace? Size? Power?

work2muchplay2little, sorry for changing the subject of your thread but info is good no matter the location.

In the next few months (after some more saving) I might put in one of these subs.

I like the looks of the JL Audio that goes in the front seat.

EMD, what kind of amp are you running with it, and can someone still sit there?

Are any of you running any cross overs - or bass blockers to the factory speakers?

Thanks

No, my head unit has a selectable crossover point for the sub line level output. But wouldn't be a bad idea if there weren't another means to minimize low frequency distortion in the door panel drivers. What other audio equiptment are you going to be using the sub?

I am currently working on my box for under the back seat. I am going to run 2 JL 12's. I am looking for fairly high SPL so I am lifting the back seat by 3 inches so that I can get extra air space. I have been extremely impressed with JL because it doesn't take much power to make them pound. I run a Panasonic Rebel deck, it's great you can't make it skip and it also has sub control. Although I may go with a digital EQ for looks in my center console. :D

I haven't decided yet. I'll probably use the factory head unit, and some type of amp that can send a low pass mono power to the JL and (80-120?) high pass to all the other speakers. I'll leave the factory speakers in for a while, and later on upgrade to something brighter and cleaner. :)

I'm also planning on mounting the amp in a slide out drawer (from Genos) under the passenger seat.

I've got some serious saving to do! - but this why I work 2 jobs.

:p

As EMDDIESEL stated, I have the Center cushion sub from JBL. It is a wonderful addition to our RAMS. I debated the rear seat model but I needed the room to put stuff in the back on the floor (Not on the subs) As long as you use a high wattage amp, You'll get great sound out of the center seat sub.

The comfort level of the center seat leaves alot to be desired. It is a solid plastic casing with no cushion. This did not bother me because no one ever sits in the center. If this is a concern for you, get the 2 rear sub enclosure.

I am running an Alpine V12 2 channel 450 watt Amp to push the center sub. I'm also using the same model to push a pair of Boston Acoustics 6. 5 pro separates for the front. These separates come with crossovers and work very well. I also use a 150 watt amp to push a pair of BA Rally 6 1/2's for the rear. All the Amplifiers are located under the seats for a stealth look.

I use a Preamp Alpine model Head unit with 3 - 4 Volt RCA outs (Front, Rear, Sub) It is better for sound to run out of a preamped RCA. If you take an Amped unit, add a line level adapter (which brings the amplified signal to a non amplified level ) Then Hook it up to an amplifier yor are going to get some distortion of the music. It may not be as noticeable in a sub but it will be in a front or rear speaker setup.

IMHO, If you want to build a system, Add the Sub woofer with a new head unit and leave your stock speakers alone. (for now ;)) Most new head units come with a Subwoofer preout which makes it easy to wire in your new sub. It also gives you the feature of being able to adjust the Subwoofer depending on the type of music you are listening to. When purchasing the head unit remember to allow for expansion. Pick one with RCA preouts to run new amps when you add them.

Good Luck

Like Sky, I have 2 of the SoloBaric (square "Kicker") subs under my rear seat. In between them are two Precision Power amps that power the subs and the MBQuart seperates in the doors and A pillars - roughly 1200 watts-o-fun! I've also sound insulated the rear and sides of the cab.

The rear box was made for me by the same guy that did Lean Rymes Porsche and Land Rover. It looks great - totally glassed in and covered in the same OEM color vinyl. I can get out the digital camera if anyone is interested.

These sound like some great systems. I have owned PPI amps in the past - they are high quality.

Hmm...

I've got some serious saving to do.

A friend of mine has the JL sub and it thumps real hard! Now I know why his girlfriend likes to sit in the center seat all the time:D

No more replacement batteries for her:D
