Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) Much gain from sliding stock cam plate forward?

First time diesel 5 spd. owner wanting to do some injector pump mods on the cheap.



Mainly with hopes of better mileage, Already have a good air filter system and exhaust.



How about bumping timing? How do you do it?



How about moving the cam plate? How do you do it?

get on tst products web site click on power ubgrades and the cam plate then on that page there is a spot you can click on for instructions then print it out it tell you how step bye step to get in to the plate and then slide it foward you should gain about 20 to 40 hp i did with my 96 auto and allittle miliage increase I had better luck though with my fuel plate a 1/16 back from being full forward timing I'm not sure about.

if you have a 5spd you might have a 215 pump

they respond great ...

i ran mine no plate for a bit now im getting a new clutch

If you are going into the pump to move the plate, you might as well just take the plate out and custom grind it to a #100 or similar. There are resources all over the net about doing this, and there are even pics of what a #100 profile should look like when your done. Trust me it is MUCH easier to do thatn it sounds, I did mine in 30 minutes with a Dremel!

On the timing, yes you will gain but you can not do it yourself unless you have the proper tools... . plus I would not recommend a newbie tackle the timing... best to be left up to a shop. Just my $0. 02
