Muffler and Exhaust?s

I know this question probably has been asked a thousand times.



I have 2006 5. 9l it has the stock exhaust system on it as of now. My question is as follows.



Is there any exhaust and muffler system out there that will give you good flow without a lot of restriction, and without a drone noise problems. If so can you guys please advised me of which ones. Also can you please give me the positives and Negatives’.

Modifying your exhaust in a truck making less than 450 hp will not change a thing except the noise level. I removed the muffler on my previously owned '06 because I like the sound. With the cat convertor in place I did not have cab drone but it was definitely louder outside the truck. Some grow tired of the increased sound level so keep your muffler if you remove it.

i agree with harvey. we removed the muffler on our 06. sounds good and not too loud in the cab. much research as been done that stock exhaust flows fine until you hit high horsepower.

Dunno, I hacked of the muffler on my 96 2500 and installed the muffler eliminator from Genos, and I swear the truck is more responsive and breathes better... but I could be in denial;-)

Also, I did not notice the 8Db increase either, sounds just fine but, then again, I worked on aircraft for many years

Call Wally at FTE diesel and buy one of his exhaust kits with no muffler then add his 30" resonator as far forward as you can.

The OP's truck is a 2006 so it has factory 4" exhaust turbo back, won't make much of a difference . You probably did feel a difference on your 96

So my question is, on the stock '06 it is a 4" exhaust with a cat only correct or a muffler only? I have to pass emissions and i'm not worried about the sniffer part, just the visual. I was under the impression that the '06 and up were 4" with a cat only, where previous years were 3" with a muffler and cat?

Cat and muffler, the mega cabs also had a resonator .

Why? No performance gain under 450HP, and they get louder with age.
