I have a 2005, 3500 long bed quad cab. Need to replace muffler and tailpipe. The only place I can get it is from the Dodge dealer. They want $550 for both parts then plus labor.

I have tried all muffler stores up here (north country NY) and they told me that the dealers are the only ones who carry it. No more after market on this item, too expensive to store.

Does this sound right to anybody? Could never imagine it would cost $550 for a muffler and tailpipe. Any ideas? Thanks.

When you say "Muffler Stores", do you mean stores who only sell mufflers, etc. ??
How about a "Shop" who makes pipes, et. ?? I had a "Shop" do mine and he had an old muffler which he had from a conversion he did. . which he was going to give me if I wanted it ! I just run the pipe with a small silencer ! It dumps out just ahead of my Right Rear tire. . never had a problem with it.

Dude try an auto parts store. I'm sure walker or someone makes it . They may not stock it but can get it in a day or so from the warehouse

Hi Joe,

One suggestion is to do a google search on MBRP or Magnaflow or Silverline, etc and you will find complete 4" dia SS systems for your truck from the turbo back, CAT back or in pieces.

The SS will last alot longer than the stock "aluminized steel" components.

My complete turbo back SS MBRP 4" dia system with 5" SS tip was $412 delivered to my door. I added $30 worth of SS band clamps instead of using the U-clamps.

Very easy install.

Muffler shops can also help, but you will end up paying around $300 for a muffler and SS tip (no tailpipe... ) installed. And depending on the shop, the work/craftsmanship can be hit/miss...

Hope this helps,

Louis

I installed a BD 6' turbo back system and shipped to Alaska was $400 (if I member right,2yrs ago) Sounds good, not too loud in the cab and the fit was right on.
