Check Out My New BHAF

So this guy I work with bought a new Powerstroke and is showing it off to everyone at the shop. After he starts it up I make a comment that it sounds like a ball bearing being swirled around in the bottom of a coffee can. After realizing that I'm right, he takes the truck back to the dealer on his lunch hour to find out whats wrong with it! I wish I could have stuck around for his return( I work in the field )and the answer.

It almost sounds like a air cooled VW,a blender full of nuts and bolts. SteveinAZ

they sure are "tinny" sounding aren't they? not sure whats going on in that engine but it sure doesn't sound like any other diesel i've ever heard, except maybe a small 4 cyl perkins in a forklift.

Might be the sound of them piston return springs pinging when there cold!!!!!   :-laf

Been there, done that.....

"it sounds like a ball bearing being swirled around in the bottom of a coffee can" I used to hear that awful sound in my sleep, a true nightmare from my powerjoke days. It is probably the torque converter, bad design that was prevlent in the earlier models. Worked okay just made alot of racket at idle. I thought they had fixed that problem, but maybe not?
