Is anyone out there running the stock exhaust with the geno's muffler elimination kit? I have removed the silencer ring and would like a little more big rig type of sound from the xhaust, but do not want the "highway drone" i have read about. any thoughts or suggestions?

I have had it on for about 6 years now. It is a little louder than stock, definitely hear the turbo better. I left the baffle that was upstream being that it has some sound deadening ability. It does free up the exhaust flow, I can hear the turbo still spinning after shut down. I ran a straight pipe on my 99 and hated it on my current truck the M. E. K is definitely better than running a straight pipe and as far as the drone it sounds the same as it did with a muffler IMHO.

I don't have the Geno's M. E. but i didn't buy a muffler when i did the exhaust on my truck. It doesn't drone on the highway. But if i were you i would just do the whole exhaust and go to a 4" turbo back if you can afford it.

yes curt,, that was another option,,, if i do it,, i will do the turbo back,,,, so your truck is straight piped? from the turbo back? no muffle and no whatever that thing is upstream of the muffler either? and there is no drone at highway speeds?

I put Genos ME kit in a few weeks ago. It is much louder. Sets off car alarms. I'm seeing just small bit og gain with the mpg. Turbo spools faster and the truck is deffiantly quicker when you stand on it, also pretty loud. Its the cheap alternitave to a whole new system. On the highway its fine. The noise level is really not bad when cruising. Just when you stand it.

I've had both the M. E. pipe and now I have the 4" turbo back. I don't notice much on power increase because of the other power mods between the two, but, I have noticed the e. g. t's are easier to control with the 4". If you a local to Atlanta, I still have the M. E. pipe and willing to give it to someone who can use it.

I still have the stock "thing" on it but i had some serious thoughts of taking it off:-laf. There isn't much drone but i haven't gotten on a long highway trip to see how much difference there is, but from what i have done so far it doesn't drone.

My dad's got a '95 with a 4" with dual glass packs welded together and it sounds sweet!:D

Mines all on a 04 but there wasn't much of a difference over stock

Just my 0. 02

I have the ME Pipe from Geno's and I would say it is a touch louder than with the muffler. I don't have any drone with my trailer in tow. I think it is all us guys that don't have huge power mods need. If I was going to do anything else, like drop the cat, I would add a muffler as I would think it would be too loud. I don't mind it while driving around empty, but out on the road with the trailer, it would get a little old. It did drop my EGT's and I saw an increase in fuel mileage. I ended up welding mine in, cause the clamps eventually worked their way loose (probably because of the vibration of the exhaust brake). Scotty

Have had mine installed for a little over a year now and am ready to get rid of it. The neighbors are complaining about the noise at idle in the early am, and the drone is a bear when pulling up the pass. Some say there is no drone, I say there is. Not to say I'm an expert or discredit the others, this is just my observations. I give much respect and credit to the ones who post here on TDR. However, if you are looking for the big rig sound, then this is the ticket. I’ve been waxing and waning over the changeover. Really the only reason I am going back is to eliminate the noise when towing. Here’s a link to a little video YouTube - 5. 9 CTD Through Tunnel I took when pulling up a steep grade, through a tunnel. I took it when traveling through Zion NP in June of this year. A little note, The trailer only had about 4" of clearance in the middle of the tunnel, which is about 1. 3 miles long  Don’t mind the Mrs. She’s just being a little goofy.

X2!! If you drive close to or over 75 it is LOUD!! Other than that I love mine and the turbo coools really fast now too!

I have had mine on for well over a year now. If you are going to remove your muffler to eliminate it then you must expect a louder exhaust. Why would anyone expect otherwise? With that said my 06 has a cat and a resonator. The 06 muffler is extremely restrictive. The cat and resonator are very minimally restrictive. I really like the sound without the muffler. To me it is not objectionably loud - I really like the deeper sound. Bear in mind that I liked the sound of the pre 3rd generations better (sounds like those just shout "this is a real "man machine. "" I have not really noticed any more power or lower EGTs with the muffler elimination kit - just better sound... Good Luck
