Muffler/Straight pipe options for and '05

Just traded in my 03 (couldn't stand the automatic anymore) on an 05. I never did anything to my exhaust but 2 trucks ago I had a 2001 with resonator and straight pipe (awesome sound). What do the new trucks sound like with a straight pipe? Is there a thread somewhere talking about all of the muffler options? I don't want a new exhaust, just replace the muffler for a better sound.

it all depends on how loud you want it, my cat ran away. If you decide to send yours packing you might have a loud exhaust, if your cat stays alot of guys like that sound better. So you might want to just try a straight through muffler because you already have the 4" pipe.

I like the sound of my straight pipe with the Cat still installed. The only drone is in 6 gear at 45 mph(don't run their much but occasionaly I get lazy and don't down shift. ). It is not much louder until you mash it, then it starts talking. I love the sound. If you've ever been to a tractor pull, the sound is comparable to the superstock "smokers" .

Mine is total str8 pipe, kitty ran off two weeks ago. Dropped my egts as well. I put in a 4 inch pipe where kity was to a piece of flex was muffler used to be and stock tail pipe with 5 inch tip. My truck has no drone, these newer trucks are more raspy than the old 12 valves. I love the sound along with the drop in egts and faster spoolup. With almost 10ft of pipe from the passenger seat, it isn't as loud with windows up.

This is my first post, but I've been lurking for some time. I had my '05 straight piped 2 weeks ago, but I left the cat on. It was a little too loud for me, so I had a 20" Magnaflow muffler installed today. It is still loud at WOT (especially outside), but much more civilized inside the cab.

Plus, instead of just being loud (like with my straight pipe), it is now deeper and more "throaty" than without the muffler. I know most oil burners prefer the straight pipe sound, but I really do like the sound of my new Magnaflow.

I like my gutted stock mufflers. They reduce back pressure without much increase in noise. And, if you can do your own work, the job is virtually free.
