Does anybody have any suggestions for a good free flowing 3" muffler that is fairly quiet? I have tried the Walker 21468 and it is to loud for my service truck.

Rhino performance

I like it, I though it was too quiet at first. A comp box and a little lead in the sneakers fixed that!

Model #911 is the one for our trucks.

If you already have a 21468 why not get another one, or really any other 3" flow through, and run them back to back. I think it will definitely be quiter.

I think the only way to get a quiter flow through muffler is to get one that is larger, either longer and/or larger in diameter.

At Joe Donnelly's suggestion, I put on a NAPA 21470. (this required two reducers and some 'finagling' to make fit. ) It is a 3 1/2" muffler--30" long. Lower exhaust tone but the engine is still the loud noise in the cab.

Steve I like the idea of the 3 1/2" Walker and understand you still hear valves more than exhaust. What do you feel about reduced restriction and EGT reduction, or quicker spoolup? Required 2 reducers?

RHamner, I left the resonator on my 99. Because it is 4" out ot res. into the muffler and a 3'' tail pipe, I used a 4"-3 1/2" on the inlet and 3 1/2"-3" reducer on the outlet. On your system you can gut the cat or loose it all together. Either way it would require 2 reducers because of the 'in between size'. We have a lot of white roads here now, so it is hard to get a good feel for spool-up, EGT, and lower restriction. EGT seems lower (my guess is 50 deg), but the real test (my 5th wheel trailer) is under 20" of snow right now. I did not have an EGT problem before I changed mufflers. IMO, the 3 1/2" size allows the exhaust to slow down and be muffled more from this straight through design, than a muffler of the same length but only 3'' I. D. Hope that helped. ;)

I am sure that the resonator does some muffling and also does not free up the exhaust as much as no res. or cat. This modification did 'seem' to make it quicker to spool up, but that is only SOP on slick/semi slick roads. :D
