Can anyone tell me what the bennifits of removing the muffler on my new 05 would be     and should it be replaced with another kind or just a pipe from Genos. Ski

The big benefit is reduced backpressure for increased performance and mileage. It can be left straight or replaced with a better flowing muffler, just depends on your taste. Straight pipe is loud and can be annoying (to you or others). Several companies have good sounding high flow mufflers.

Just a straight pipe can be a little to loud when pulling trailers. I would like to cut off my cat and muffler off and just go with a aero turbine muffler. To see how it would do my egts and mpg.

Don't take it completely off just modify the inside of it :-laf keep it on for warranty

Will changing the muffler void the warranty? Is it just the warranty on the exhaust or the whole engine? I was thinking of putting a straight through muffler on mine. May have to rethink that though.

I thought that the Magnusom-Moss Act made the manufacture prove that the modification caused the problem (what ever the problem may be)

This is true but you'll have to go to court to fight it out. Most people are not willing to do it. Some dealers are more willing to work with you than others. Mine for example replace my ball joints at 30K despeite my truck being lifted, the service manager said "I don't see how you could have caused this". Other dealers red flag you for things as simple as added gauges.

My friend straight piped his 04, I don't like it, just too loud. My straight through muff is much more pleasant but still throaty.
