Muffler

I just had a talk with a fellow dodge diesel owner and he ask if i had taken the muffler off my rig. I said no. He said that if i did I would get more power. The only difference will be a real bad noise at 1800-2200 rpm's. EGT's might come down a little but not enough.

I had an 02 with 4" exhuast no muffler and loved it. It was loud, but sounded good. However I don't really care for the sound of the 03 with no muffler. I just don't like the fluttering and all. I put the Aero Turbine on mine and love it. My recomendation, go with an aftermarket exhaust that you like the sound of and fits your budget. Mine was $265, delivered!

EX. Flutter

I installed my 5" ex. A while back,With a Donaldson 1 baffel and

now seem's to have a lot more Flutter and other sound's off

of the side's of wall's ect. than at first. I have bought a Flowmaster 5"in 5"out to try that,but now I have had to order

A heat schield,befor Install,I was told there is a heat build up at

the muffler,and that could melt the bed liner when towing!I don't

like the flutter,but love the truck! GWD

that aeroturbine completely eliminated the flutter. It's gone and I don't miss it a bit. Sounds good, too!

I think the aeroturbine is only available in 4", but not sure. Check with these guys -

If you eliminate the muffler on your truck, chances are you wont like the sound. they dont sound anything like the previous models. They sound similar to those ricers. Which in my opinion sound like poo.

Took off the whole system (except the front pipe) to goto band clamps. Liked the sound of mine. Had no "ricer" sound. Sounded like my old y2k. Need to get a muffler replacement pipe so's I can have the "noise" but might need to "tone" it down some. Felt great running only the downpipe (even in the seat) . All connections are 3. 5", if anyone is interested. Had to get the clamps after I had it apart to make sure of the size. Thinking about moving a muffler to the front and looking at how to single stack it (down the road for this mod). Sew for now, looking for a 3. 5 pipe and/or muff. BUTT not looking hard.
