I came across these photos and I know they were posted some time ago but thought I would repost in case the old ones are no longer available. You can squeeze in to remove the two phillips screws and then just pull the switch straight out. Back in the day there were many switches that did strange stuff and it was dirty contacts that could most often be cleaned up. LOL, those look familiar. They may be mine. At some point I realized the repair manual instructions had a bunch of extra steps. (you don't need to remove the wheel like it says)
 
Thanks for the reminder. I bought a new Multifunction Switch back in 09 as it was getting flaky, but since then the switch behaves 99% of the time so I'm still dragging around the new replacement - how did my switch know?!
