How much $ for fuel pressure test

What is that hose? (and other stuff)

Those of you that know my truck's history are aware that I am destined to break something at Muncie.

I'm leaving early in the morning and I did a few last minute test runs today after making a few modifications.

Well, this is what happened!

#ad

I've always blown them off, but never blew one apart before.

I'm hoping this will be my failure for the Muncie trip.

But I'm sure I'll have more to add when I get back next Tuesday.

Wish me luck, :)

Chris

Are you running twins? What boost pressure do you have max thease days? I have some intercooler hoses I got off ebay that are 3" diameter from a Ford Powerjoke and they have wire bands surounding the double hump to keep them from doing that.

Treven.

Chris, wait till you get to Muncie at least, before you blow it up... .....

Oh yeah, almost forgot..... Good Luck :D

Darren

It looks like you might have found the 200HP you were looking for, at least the boost part of it anyway..... Good luck!

Those Boots SUCK!!!!!

Chris, I had those exact same connectors on my truck and they came off all the time. I couldn't keep them on no matter what. I finally plumbed an air fitting into my intercooler tubes so I could pressurize the system with the engine off to see what was going on. At 10-15 psi those black boots will about double in size. I was actually scared to go above 20 psi for fear that it would burst. So I'm not suprised by your picture.

Those hoses are now resting peacefully at the bottom of the garbage can in the shop. You can get some good hose from www.hosetechniques.com . The hose is rated for 125 psi and 500 degrees. Good stuff at a reasonable price.

Or, you could get the Ford connectors if you could stand having a Powerstroke part on the big ole Dodge. :D

BTW, after doing some research, those thick black connectors you blew up are NOT for pressurized systems no matter what the parts people tell you. (they tricked me too ;) ) They were meant for the air filter side of a turbo.

He's just lying

I think he cut the hose with a pair of tin snipps just to scare off the compatition. :D :-laf :-laf :-laf

Why not just slip a coffie can over the hose to keep it form busting the next time. :p

I replaced the broken boot with the stock boot and didn't have any trouble at Muncie. I can't believe my truck finally lived through an event. :)

For those that asked, I'm not currently running twins. I'm running a PDR H2E/17 and I'm pushing 51 psi of boost from it.

Johnboy3,

I don't have a problem with Ford parts. I got beat by a stroke in the 1/4 by nearly two full seconds. Maybe I could learn a little something from the Ford boys. :)

Good link for the hoses, you will never see a gasser turbo or blower guy and that making any power use crap for hoses like our trucks have, plus if they are smart, or should I say us we would mod our connectors with a lip on the end of the connection and a bar if you will that connects the two tubes together. With this setup the bar does the holding together and the clamp only does the sealing.

Your welcome for the link. I hunted for a long time before I found those hoses. Also I have found you can get the good constant pressure T-bolt clamps from Ford. They are 3" clamps.

The part number for them is - YC3Z-6K786-DA for $5. 62 a piece. They are the really good ones too.

a bar if you will that connects the two tubes together. With this setup the bar does the holding together and the clamp only does the sealing.

Unfortunately after putting the good boots and clamps on, I was still able to blow the connector before the intercooler fairly easily. I welded a stud on either side of the boot and wrapped a long piece of mechanic's wire around them both. It works really well. I wish I would have done it in the first place.
