I pulled a big load of hay home last weekend (34k), while backing in to a barn I kind of heard a thump and thought it was my Goerend transmission and I was putting too much pressure on it , anyway, put it in 4 low and no more problems

stopped at a Quick Shop the other day and just starting to back out I thought I hit something, pulled forward and found I didn't, then, when I started stopping later the brake pedal was light although I did have brakes, just farther down on the pedal, I'd let up and repress the brake pedal and all was fine

it continues to do this with a "thump" and resistance sometimes when backing up and most times after driving the brake pedal is mushy the first time or two I drepress the pedal, then it hardens up and feels normal

is there some type of hydralic or vacumn pump? my power steering seems fine

thanks for advice and help

Rear - Drums or Disk?

Mushy pedal then stiffens up after a few applications - could be internal master cylinder leak?

The backing up and stopping on its own has me . . . thinking E-brake or if it's drums something going on w/the shoes . . .

Sounds like you need to take the rears down and look at them. Then get back to us.

Agreed. Without seeing it, I'd first suspect the rear brake shoes (if so equipped).

You'd have a very hard pedal without the hydro-boost.

It almost seems like an axle's brakes are allowing too much motion for some reason, but operation pushes the brakes back in. This could explain the mushiness until you've pumped the pedal a few times.

Thanks, i'll have this checked out, it doesn't appear anthing is dragging and the brakes work fine except for the 1st push or two, then they seem normal

tension spring probably broke. . the shoe hangs up when backing up, I would check it before you have no brakes and test out your Ins policy to see how good it is.

disc's on the rear, right rear the the pad had popped off, metal to metal but not long enough to need a hub, everything can be turned and fixed

:eek::--)

Hope the rotor is OK / can be cut and trued. Wow! have to remember that one and place in memory banks for future use.

Nice save . . .
