New Fifth Wheel

Towing the Smarty way

I am working restoring a older Holiday Rambler that I bought for $500 bucks. It had sat since 2000 under trees and abandoned. When I saw it for the first time I thought there was no hope for it but 8 months later I am about done with it minus finding a awning for it. I even got it a special tag :-laf Let me know what you think!

VERY nice! Was it mostly clean and shine, or were there structural issues? Nice floor plan - NOW, just don't let it sit still for another 7 years! ;) :D

Thanks! I have put lots of time on this. Sorry I dont have any before pics. Thats one thing I regret not having is before pics.

No structural issuses mostly cosmetic. Had to rebuild the front window paneling due to the window leaking. Repainted front tounge and rear bumper, replaced A/C,vents,cool sealed roof. I had to update the 1978 carpet and linoleum, minor plumbing leaks, replaced fresh water tank. I acually found exact original replacement fender skirts from the Holiday Rambler factory. I called them they told me that I was in luck that they had 2 left in really old stock on the shelf. The rest of the repairs was really minor stuff. But so far I am happy on how its turned out.

Nice, I especially like the license plate :D

I saw a similar license plate "PAID IV" on a boat trailer one time as the people were launching their boat. It was a little funny when the boat wouldn't start and they tied it off to the boat dock and just sat in it!

Don't let that happen to your 'new' travel trailer!

Well made trailer for sure. Very nice job.

How much does it weigh?

The ID tag on the side says 4700 lbs but when I weighed it on our truck scale at work it topped out at 6100 lbs empty! Both my truck and camper weighed 12,400 . It is REALLY well built! :-laf . I pulled it through the NC mountains and averaged 13. 5 mpg.

That brand is very well built - and the manufacturers were VERY notorious for quoting weights well below actual. On the other hand, additions and added cargo can add up fast - air conditioners are heavy, batteries and a couple of full propane tanks are too - a full 40 gallon water tank will run the weight up about 320 lbs. , etc...

Did this model have the pendulum in the rear? I understand HR put them in the rear of some of the longer models to manage sway.

I am not sure. I know it used to have the ASCS (automatic stabilization control system) it would activate the brakes to reduce the sway. Most of it was missing when I got it but the wiring is still there for it.

She's a homely old girl. Your effort is commendable, as is your wisdom in resurrecting a trailer that will no doubt return its value many times over.

Congratulations,
Neil
