Greetings all, Ive been absent from TDR since back in '09 but have been spending alot of time at NWB, anyways...

Over the years I built my '96 the way I wanted it and have recently picked up a '98 3500 12V and am in the process of swapping parts between trucks. The idea is that since I’ve spent all this $ making the ’96 the way I want it, I may as well swap the good stuff from it to the ’98. Some parts are worth swapping but others not so much and will just be purchased new.

The parts list below will give an idea of the work that will be done.

Parts that will be swapped between trucks
Cylinder heads (The ’96 has a fairly recently rebuilt, o-ringed head. I will check flatness and mag them both in my shop)
Studs (12mm ARP into the '98, bolts go to the '96)
Turbos (HT3B/HX40 vs. stock HX25)
Injectors (DDP4 vs. stock)
Exhaust and exhaust brakes (both trucks have a 4” remote brake)
Intercooler and boots (PDR cooler vs. stock)
Transmissions (NV5600 vs. NV4500)
Cross members
Driveshafts
DSS steering stabilizer
Prime loc fuel filter setup (the two trucks have different filters so I still need to figure this out)
Maybe radiators and fans as these parts are fairly new in the ‘96

New Parts I will need for the ‘98
Gauges: boost, pyro, pod
Front/rear main seals
Kdp kit
Transfer case seals
+0.010 head gasket (currently the plan)
U joints (maybe)
3k GSK
Turbo oil drain parts/fittings
60lb springs for intake (exhaust is done)
Replacement NV5600 Trans filter
NV5600 Trans fluid (redline MTL again)
Transfer case fluid
Diff fluids
Coolant (That Fleetgaurd fancy blue stuff)
Posi loc 2 low kit
Solenoid boot
Starter contacts
Water pump
Idler pulley
Lukes link for track bar
7 pin trailer plug for box
I already have a Vacuum pump seal kit, Raptor 150, DD3250 and HX40 rebuild kit on the shelf as well as a starter spacer out there somewhere (Thanks Travis and Ben J)


New Parts I will need for the ‘96
Stock thickness head gasket
Solenoid boot
60lb valve springs for exhaust (4” exhaust brake coming from the ’98)
Vacuum pump seal kit
Pilot bearing
Throwout bearing
I plan to leave the GSK, gauges, cam plate etc. in the '96 It will keep the 13” South Bend FE after I send the disc to South Bend to get a new 1.25” hub riveted in. This truck also has Lukes links for all tie rod ends, which it will keep as the '96 is an inverted "Y" setup and the '98 is and inverted "T".

I gladly welcome any input (good or bad) from you guys. If you think I’m missing something here, heading down the wrong road or can maybe suggest some other work I may want to consider doing at the same time.

I've been keeping a thread updated at the Northwest Bombers with my progress and I'll do my best to start doing the same here.
