I turned on my A/c today and it wasn't very cold. The pump is only cycling for 10 seconds at a time. Someone told me that I need to recharge with R134A. I know next to nothing about A/C units. My truck is an '01. Should my refrigerant be gioing soth on me this soon. Do I have a leak? Where do these systems usualkly leak at? How do I add refrigerant? Thanks in advance for all replies.

My '01 did that a few months ago... the dealer fixed under warranty and it's been fine all summer. They told me what it was but I've forgotten. If you've still got warranty take 'er to the dealer. As I recall the bill was a couple hundred... they replaced some component that was leaking. This probably does you NO GOOD... sorry

Sounds like you probably have a leak and need a recharge. If you don't have the tools like a leak detector, gauges, vacuum pump, and lots of little misc. supplies it is probably cheaper to take your truck to a shop that does AC repair. It's possible to do the fix yourself but if you won't do AC work very often, it's not very cost effective to do it yourself.

I converted the system on my '88 mustang to R-134 myself and I knew practically nothing about AC before I started. I did it because I wanted to learn but ended up spending quite a bit on tools and spending lots of time reading before I did it. If you really want to do this yourself, let me know and I'll try to help out.
