I have experienced on-going problems with the A/C in my '01. Replaced a leaking hose about 18 months ago..... a Dodge dealer only item. Soon after, my a/c was dead again; this time the evaporator was leaking and had to be replaced. The new evaporator lasted almost 6 months and it started leaking, so out came the dash again! The second replacement evaporator was of a slightly different design than the first replacement, so I thought maybe Dodge had found out they had a problem with the first design and changed or improved it. Maybe not.

Long story short, my a/c is dead again. It has been almost 6 months since the second evaporator replacement. All the lines and fittings are dry and no dye or anything shows up with the black light. So, today, we added more juice to the system and will check again on Monday or Tuesday to see if anything shows up.

Any ideas from any of you folks? Is anyone else experiencing on-going a/c problems?

Yeah, we have been experiencing it too on our 02. But the dealer hasn't been able to find anything as of yet. So far we have replaced the evap, condensor, reciever/dryer, o-rings... ... ..... Only things that havent been replaced were the lines and the compressor. This last time there was a low charge so the recharged the system and couldn't find a leak so they added the dye. 1500miles later there still was no leak showing. Not much help I know, But I feel your pain

Man this AC issue on the 02's is a real PIA. I had mine in the very first summer that I had mine. The thing was used almost never before that, (maybe 10 hours at best). I replaced all the refridgerant, and worked for like a day. Took to the dealership that I bought it from, and they were good the first time. They did everything under warrentee, no money out of pocket!! :--) Now I am having problems again this summer, went to same dealer, they want $86 to look, and when they find the issue, it is $100 deductable!! :( These AC's suck almost as bad as the VP 44's.

Mine wasn't cooling like it should this past Spring, so I had it evacuated and recharged. I just bought this truck last October, so it probably wasn't right when I got it. Anyway, my friend who did the work said another customer has an '02 and has to have it charged every year. Supposedly the dealer told him they can't find the leak and they have this problem with a lot of them.

Add another evaporator failure to the list! 57 k, and not real happy with prospect of 800 dollar bill if to replace it. :-{} :-{}

Lift pump is still strong, but that kind of thinking could jinx that too.

Rip,

edm 1. 0,s working well. Nice fuel savings and torque boost on low end. Great mod for towing heavy. :)

Just had my 01 ac evacted and recharged. The dealer warned that the hi and low line commonly leak around the schader valve. The bad part is that the valves are not replaceable so they have to replace the whole line.

Didn't last long..... Hadn't driven the truck for a week, got in the other day and noticed the compressor cycling. No more freon. Or, not enough anyway. :{

I am not real fond of sealers buttttt..... My 99 was leaking at the high pressure test port at the beginning of warm weather. I checked around and apparently this is a common problem and a new hose is not a guarantee that it will not leak. I added a can of freon with sealer almost 3 months ago and still have 40 degree air at the registers.

I found a funny leak on my '01...

The low side, the hard line near the port, goes to a flex rubber line... The transition to it is a crimp and it is covered by insulation... I peeled back the insulation a little, and the leak was at the connection of the crimp and the hardline... . I used JB-Weld at that junction and so far, it did boil out a little on a hot trip this summer but added like 1/2 can and it is under 40 deg. at idle... see how long that lasts...

remember the more you use the a/c the better. run the snot out of so you keep all bushing seals etc lubed. i dont run mine on recirc unless its really hot dont want to suck all the trash back in the system.

Have had my system run down on freon a number of occasions, and the dealer has been unable to find the leak, until the other day, in theory. The technician pulled the clutch off the compressor, found a bit of wetness, and the sniffer went nuts. The sniffer wasn't detecting any freon with the clutch on the compressor. FYI, my evaporator has been replaced, once on my dime, and once on theirs. The last replacement was theirs, trying to find the leak they found the other day.

We Had One That Was Loosing Freon And No Dye Shown, We Pulled A/c Clutch And Shaft Seal Was Leaking And Showing Green. It Was A 2001 Also
