well after reading about bypass filters i figured i would get one for my 06 ctd. lots of soot in the oil that i just dont like! so i tried to find a good set up and i decided to go on the amsoil BMK-11. very nice set up. but i did not like the hose that came with the kit or the brass fittings. reminded me of my old Dart to much. so i just orderd the bracket/mount for the filter and a big bypass fitler. all the AN fittings and SS hose i got from Jegs. i just love the black and red fittings, match my INFERNO red truck!

First i had to find a location fro the filter. but being that i wanted to run the largers one they have, i only had one option. if you look on Amsoils website they show what a few people have done for there mounting. and i decided to flow that. so i fabed up a bracket to go next to the intake. angled it at 65 degrees, and called it good!

as for the oil return, i just dont like the way it looks going in to the oil cap. and i also have a thing about pounding holes in a good oil pan. but after reading Mundgyver's thread on the Spinner 2 bypass, i loved the idea of removing a return plug on the side of the block to get a clean oil return. so i ordered a piece from Cummins northwest and an oring, cut the tube, and welded in a SS AN fitting. the hard part was getting the old plug out. i used a vac to try and keep the metal shavings out of the oil (chaning it any way) when i drilled a small hole to get the plug out... ... ... ... ... ... ... . that just did not work to well. so i had to make a few more... ... ... ... and broke a punch, IN THE OIL PAN... ... . but i did get the little SOB out. and by the grace of god, i used a mag pickup tool and got the some of the punch out, still a little pice in there someware. but its way to big to go anyware. i hope the mag drain plug will get it.

that was the fun part. the hard part was the SS hose and getting it in to the fittings. but i got them, and here is what it all looks like!

And yes i will take the return line off to get to the filter!

I like your oil return plug, idea. Where those parts expensive?

A lot of people are placing their filters in this location. However, in my '03, I have a big plastic cover (APPS, I believe) right where the filter goes. This thing is huge & leaves no room for any kind of filter system.

Great job on the install.

Like I told you already I wish I could put mine there, but the pacbrake compressor is there. I will find a spot for mine though and I will be using stainless braided lines.

An Amsoil tech has told me to keep the filter off of the motor to reduce agitating the bypass filter.

Mounting the bypass on the firewall requires rubber mounts to eliminate noise transfer to the cab (the oil pump is LOUD... . ) or mount to the frame.

ture, but even on amsoils webpage they show this mount twice... ... ... ... and if vibaration can make the filter not work, then how do they expect them to work at all on a truck? they dont exactly ride like a cadi. i think it sould work just fine. the firewall mount just does not look strong enougth. i have a thing with sheetmetal.

What about the factory mount. It's on the motor

I never did ask that question... however, I suspect it is the flow rate. The flow though the full flow is many many many times faster then the drip rate though a by pass.

Then again, at least on the BMK-11, the pressure restriction is after it's been past the media. maybe they were not sure about the stability of the mount for the filter being vibrated constatnly? :)

And besides, for those of us with no welder or welding skills, firewall or frame mount is a walk in the park.

i wish i had a welder. i had to have a shop make my stuff for me. id love to get one, but i just dont think i do enought fabrication to justify getting one.

I need a welder and someday will have one for those once in a while projects. I do however work in a machine shop so I do have access to that kind of thing.

Nice set-up! However, there is NOTHING wrong with the hoses/fittings that come with the kit, other than perhaps not as shiny. They certainly are very high quality.

Wayne, you are absolutely right the hoses/fittings that comes with will work fine with the bypass setup. However, I did not like the slip fitting so I had a hydraulic shop made my hoses and the fittings pressed fit…they told me they can only guaranty it will hold pressure and won’t leak up to 4,000 PSI. :-laf

Just my 2 cents:After 25 years in the logging business, I have had more crimp style hyd. fittings leak than either push locks or 2 piece reuseable fittings, when pressures are within design limits of the fittings.

For those interested, TDR member CPFF is an Amsoil dealer in CT and a machinist. He made the mount I used on my 01 to put the bypass system on the pass side battery. He makes and sells the kit himself as well as supplies SS hoses to replace the rubber ones that come with the kit. I'm not sure that he makes it for all model years, but it's worth a shot. Love the set up as he designed it.
