Just comparing it to another truck. The other one I could here it sizzle. Mine sounds quiet. Other truck fired up with ease. This one a little slower to get up to idle.
Tried an ohm meter with it warm. Measures at 18 if I did it right?
Also I can here water swishen around when I start it up from inside the truck. Goes away after a few secound. Any thoughts would sure be appriated. Thanks Jeff

Jeff,of my two '95s the 2500 sometimes sizzles, the 3500 is quiet. When both have been plugged in the intake heaters don't come on,I feel this is the true test of how well the block heater is working. My theory on the swishing noise, which may be wrong,is that the boiling action around the heater element introduces air into the system. When you start up the noise you hear is the air passing thru the heater hoses. The air eventually escapes through the radiator overflow into the coolant reservoir.

This is not a reply, but a question. . What temp should the block heater be used? in the 30's?? It starts ok now. I know some of you guys are way -0. . I'm just curious. .

Or if I star having hard starts?

Also, how long do you leave it plugged in?

Thanks. ed

What is the 'sizzle' sound that is coming from the block when I plug it in? I have left it plugged in for 5 minutes and it does not go away. I was concerned that there was something wrong and I would not leave it plugged it. Give me some idea's

Thanks
Rick

The "sizzle" is normal and is what I always listen for to ensure my heater is working. I usually use mine if parked outside below 20 degrees or so.

That sizzle you hear is the heater perculating so to speak. It's a good noise, it lets you know it's working. #ad

You can plug in at any temp below 60f without any loss of sleep. The block heater would have to succesfully overheat the entire cooling system (block, radiator, and heater core) before any damage would occur. The cooling system on our trucks is way more than enough to accomadate this heat #ad

What do you guys think about leaving the heater plugged in 24 hours occasionally? Of course, this would be done only if temps stayed below 40 degrees. I don't leave my home office every day, but when I need to go, I want the benefits of the warm engine.

I'm told that the wattage of this heater would only cost about a buck a day. (?)

Nothing wrong with having it plugged in 24-7. However it will increase the electric bill some, that is why some guys use timers.
