here is a shot of my uniden 520xl installed into my dashboard where my ash tray used to be. i used the ashtray face to make a bezel. there is an remote speaker rear of the b pillar which is nice for those who dont want to listen to the c. b. noise. the install went well and the most difficult part was working the ashtray face. it still needs a bit of tweaking but is getting close to a perfect fit.

one more way to use a bit of wasted space imho. :)

Nice CB install. But what kind of head unit is that? It looks like 1 1/2 DIN?

P. O. S. jensen

has a tape deck in it and cd. came with my truck when i bought it from my neighbor. i dont have any tapes anymore so that part is not really needed. i will be upgrading soon i hope to something i can plug my sirius into instead of FM modulating.

looks good... . my connex was a bit too large to put where the ashtray used to be so i installed my connex in dash where the cup launcher used to reside... and my galaxy freq counter is now in place of the ashtray.

Connex's are junky radios... ... I'll PM you my address and I will dispose of it for you. :p :-laf

kelly, i like my connex very much (ive had it now for about 2 years. ) i almost bought a new connex when i saw the 4300 and 4600 series radios... . but since i have a palimor amp in my truck there was no need to get a bigger radio... (with my box on i can swing almost 600watts... . )

you outta take your radio down to road hogs radio shop in carlisle (over at the flying J. ) dave and gary did all my work on my radio (swing kit, bigger finals, etc;) your radio will deffintley talk after gary gets done with it..... :D

Mark, when did you get into the CB disposal business??? ;) if i ever see u @ IRP u better stay away from my truck and radio  LOL :-laf

LONG time ago! If you ever need one... well you got my #! ;)

Yeah I'd hate to get hurt trying to grab that 3300 for disposal. If you make it to IRP you sure as heck better call my cell!! :p I got a room at the Days Inn the other night for $49 (AAA deal) a night, and we'll be getting there Friday afternoon. Oo. This year I'm coming prepared... . 25% tread 265's on old 79 Chevy stock rims will be along for the ride. :-laf

My Dodge = Cobra 148F swinging 50 watts into a palomar 300

My Chevy = Cobra 25 swinging 40 watts

Soon to be base = Uniden Grant XL (Phillipeans(sp?) radio) on IMAX 2000. Radio will probably do 50-60 watts when its done.

I hope MTY posts his install.

Mine is in my Glove box. Kinda a PITA to get to but the out of site factor was important. However I like TDoumit's deal there with the way it sits. TDzl is that connex "enhanced"? or is that just an echo? I have heard good things on that box.

That's a Connex 3300 High Power. They come with dual finals which makes them stronger than any normal Cobra, Uniden, or small Galaxy (77's, 88's, & 99's have Dual Finals).

However Chris's radio has certainly been "enhanced" and it is not unheard of to get 70-80 watts of swinging transmit power out of a dual finaled Connex or Galaxy.

The newer & bigger Connex's that Kelly is talking about have a small built in linear on top of being dual final. That's how they can get 200 watts... ahem. . "stock" ;)

Hay got smoke if you want an nother cobra i have one for sale its in the tdr classifieds it a nice raido ;)

Thanks but I'm radio poor and still needing a base antenna and power supply (10amp or very close to it). I was really wanting a Connex 3300HP when this Cobra 148F (rare w/built in Frequency Counter) fell into my lap for the "right" price. ;)

THAT TURNED OUT SWEEEET!

Did you need to do any modifications to the dash over than just cut the ashtray face out?

So the 520xl was mounted to the ashtray and you just slipped it back in?

How did you put this thing up?

And how does it sound with the internal speaker alone?

Thanks!

Erik

I think that is my next project, and after, a full police scanner in the new Tuffy Console I want to get.

MPO FWIW is that with that speaker being back in behind the dash (bottom firing speaker) is that you will not be able to understand anything on it at all, let alone with the motor noise driving down the road. External Speaker would be a must.

looking to find a whip antenna fender mounted for the 92, would that be the way to go on that one, anybody have any ideas, all info is appreciated.

I have a Uniden Bearcat in the '00 truck, just have to get another antenna the other one didn't last long due to wind turbulance LOL...
