My car died

Got a 97 grand prix gtp . Turn the key on the fuel pump starts start the car the fuel pump turns off then when it runs out of gas and stalls the pump turns on . What the . HELP

Sounds like a bad oil pressure switch. Oil pressure tells the fuel pump the engine is running, no oil pressure, no gas.

replaced last night still same problem . taking to shop tonight could use some help to save the cash . thanks

Hows your fuel filter? The pump might be able to fill it up at initial start up, and when it really starts needing more fuel, the filter might be clogged up enough to not flow enough.

get a print and see where the pump relay gets its power feed once the engine is running. . maybe a bad wire somewhere. . you could always hotwire the pump relay to keep it going until you can get around to fixing it?

I hot wired it last night ran great but i think i need a permenant fix runnin the pump all the time would cause early failure and it is not cheap . But great idea Thanks

Does the pump not run whenever the engine is running anyway?



It would be the same thing either way. . If you fix it right, or hotwaire it, as long as you don't leave the ignition on without the engine running.

I thought it maintained preesure by turnin on and off ? so it would not over heat
