Help. Drained the coolant today and replaced both hoses, removed the housing for the thermostat and was going to replace it but the one I bought is too large in diameter so refitted the original thermostat, then refilled with straight water, was going to flush the system. Also put my voltmeter onto the middle wire of the TPS as OD is shifting uncommanded. At one point I had the TPS off the pump. Refitted it, voltage at idle and wot appear to be within spec. Actually went wot by pushing rearward on the lever sticking out at the forward end of the pump. Went to start, fired first compression the way it always does, but won't keep running. Have tried to start several times this afternoon, no luck. Engine never ever stalls once it fires. Seems like it is not getting fuel. Had the key in the 'on' position for perhaps 10 minutes while setting the TPS.
Thanks in advance for suggestions. Have to take the '83 Volvo to work tonight, look at Mr. Cummins again tomorrow afternoon.

Ian, check that the electrical connections to the KSB Solenoid and the Fuel Solenoid are tight and inspect the connectors for corrision. I hope this helps?

Patient was discharged from hospital in Abbotsford yesterday sporting a rebuilt fuel pump and a 16 cm housing. First indications are a keen interest in life. ($$$).

Ian good to hear the truck is back on its wheels.

What exactly is the KSB solenoid? If its what i'm thinking of, mine is disconnected. If i'm not thinking of the right thing, the engine is still running, if that helps any. Anyway, what does it do? Cause I think when its plugged in, the engine sounds "normal" for a bit, but after it gets warmed up, the sounds changes from loud to quiet. I don't like it, but is that what its supposed to do?

The KSB kicks in when the temp cools down. It advances the pump timing to max to help reduce cold start smoke. When the engine warms up, it settles back and allows the timing to return to normal.
I also had a 16cm housing installed on my 93. I found that the change down from the stock 18. 5cm to the 16 was a bit sublte. It did spool up quicker and I did see a slight boost increase. If I were to do it again I think it would more likely be to a 14cm wastegated housing. Yes its more money but the perf. difference would be more pleasing in my opinion. From what I've read here the 14cm should not be a problem until you get up into much higher HP applications.
