My diesel pinging?? Whats up??!!

When ime on the throtle going down the road, my truck sounds like its pinging. Let off the throtle and it goes away. I looked for exhaust leaks but cant find any... .

On your problem of "pinging" I would
suggest that you THOROUGHLY check all
of the exhaust manifold bolts. Several
members (including myself) have had them
back out and some have fallen out!!!

I had two of mine loosen up, one of which
had backed out about 1/8". I heard a noise
"similar" to what you described, however,
after I tightened up the bolts the noise
stopped.

What year truck? If it is four wheel drive check to see if the transfer shifter is rattling at about 1800 to 2000 rpm under load. I think there is a TSB on this, something about bending the spring clip. http://www.dodgeram.org/tech/tsb/1997/21_12_97.htm
