Help- NV5600 2001 HO clutch throw-out fork failure

I have had a DTT set-up since Sept of 2001. I had it installed locally. I had a few issues with my transmission, and was not thrilled with my local transmission shop and never wanted to return there ever again. So I called up Bill to help me out. He was more than patient with me, explaining in detail all the steps we were going to take to remedy the situation. After many calls on the phone and parts being sent to me pre-paid (Very classy) we tried to diagnose my problems of 3rd gear starts. After swapping out gov pressure solenoids, od solenoid, valve bodies and all related wiring, Bill sent me up a PCM to try. That was my problem. Nothing to do with any of my DTT equiptment... ... . just my bad luck.



Fast forward another couple of months... my PCM is fried again. I can still drive my truck, I just have to go from N and shift into 1st and manually upshift. Anyways, I drive it like this for about a year and I finally schedule a trip to see Bill @ DTT. It is about a 12 hour trip down, and with me trying to finish building my log home, a 16 month old son :D and work, and the farm I am surprised I actually pulled the trip off! I went down and on Wednesday had a HX 40 turbo installed at Piers because Bill wanted "most" of my upgrades done before he does my transmission. Wednesday afternoon after my turbo install, I am happily driving down the Trans-Canada highway and people are pulling up beside me, looking and pointing. I am thinking (being a farmer from way up north) that yup I am cool and they must really like my turbo..... :rolleyes: Finally one guy rolls down his window and yells that something is leaking from my truck. :eek: NOT COOL. Immediately I thought my turbo oil line or oil plug had come loose. Nope. Fuel, and tons of it. Turns out for some unknown reason the center stud on by fuel filter canister decided to take a dumper on me. So there I am on the side of the trans-Canada just moments before rush hour with my truck turned off with about a gallon of fuel laying below. I had some zip-ties in my truck, so I tried to hold my fuel filter hosing together with those. No luck..... the truck fired up, but fuel was gushing out by the gallons! Well I thought, nothing I can do but drive it. So I started out again, with a large trail of diesel pouring out behing me on the way to find Bills shop. Turns out I was about 10 miles from it. I found it and came limping into his business parking lot with a mongo trail of deisel behind me. I went in and met the DTT crew, and when I told them how badly I was doing the immediately opened up their shop doors for me... ... . with a 100 ft trail of oil absorbing kitty litter :rolleyes: leading the way. This was at about 5:00 pm when I got there. It took me about an hour and a half to get my fuel filter canister repaired and back together and truck running again. In those 10 miles I used over 1/2 a tank of fuel. :eek: This is about 1/2 an hour after leaving Piers shop and one of the last things he told me was that I "might" see better fuel mileage. Bill and Stefan and Shanti all waited patiently while I used their shop and tools to do a repair on my truck. VERY COOL. The next day Piers showed up at Bills shop to save my bacon with a new housing, but I had already repaired my own. After I was up and running again, Stefan led the way to show me where most of the DTT customers stay. Very nice hotel and when I told them I was with DTT I got a 33% discount. From 90 bucks a night to $60. Anyways, I had to wash the underside of my truck, Bill told me Vinnie would not like working on a truck soaked in diesel fuel plus all the unknown "cow" mud that was built up underneath. :D So thursday morning Bill told me of his plan for my truck. He told me the price... ... in hindsight is next to nothing for the amount of work that was done to my truck. DTT put in a complete freshly rebuilt before my eyes, transmission with all of his latest upgrades except for Billet shafts. Shanti had another PCM on order just in case. By 5:00 on thursday afternoon we had the rebuilt transmission in my truck, ready to search for electrical gremlins. Bill told and how to look for them myself, cleaning and di-electric greasing all connections etc and stayed behind at least an extra hour after closing, helping me with the wiring. After that, Stefan gave me a ride back to the hotel and we agreed upon a time when he would pick me up in the morning.



Friday morning I arrive and Vinnie is already draining the oil from my transmission so Darrin can do some more tinkering with the valve body. I was still getting 3rd gear starts. After trying and exhausting all options, we finally resorted to trying another PCM. That was the culprit once again. Anyways, off I go the the stealership :mad: to get a serial # installed into my PCM. I come back to the DTT shop and need to have a little more tinkering done to the VB on the TV circut. Anyways to make a long story short I finally get to go on a test drive with Darrin who has 2 pressure gauges in his hands telling me that everything looks good. We go back to the shop, so I can tie up some loose ends, like my wiring! After all my stuff was packed up and I was ready to go pay the bill..... I was getting a bit nervous. Bill, Vinnie, Darren, Stefan, even Shanti and Crystal had done so much extra for me..... like ordering me a new u-joint, tracking down a fuel filter housing etc that I thought if I was being billed by the hour I would be broke. I am not kidding when they helped me out in one way or another for at least 16-18 hours. Anyways back to my original point. When I went to pay the bill, it was not one red cent higher than Bill said it would be at the start of the job. The price he quoted me was exactly what Shanti invoiced me for. I have never felt so lucky! They sent me away with a complementry Wolf Pack T shirt, extra pan gaskets and filters, different sprigs for my valve body and a few DTT stickers! Also they bought me lunch both days!



I could not be happier with everyone at DTT. I know there are no more transmission wars allowed on the TDR. If anyone asks for my opinion on who the best is... ... . well I will direct them to this thread. Should be pretty obvious.



Get it done right... ... make the trip to see Bill and the crew in person or one of his trained installers. You will not regret it.

Did you ever find the cause of the fried PCM?

I will add a similar story to this. I had a billet shaft and upgrade done then a couple of weeks later Rob Thomas and I added everything else listed below. Anyway I had a problem of the truck dying on shift into gear. I called several places and nobody had an awnser except I needed to go back to stock injector fuel lines. Not liking this awnser I gave Bill a call to see how they remmedied the problem, thinking they had had a similar experience with the automatics not liking the oversized lines. Well to my amazement this was new to DTT. Bill had me check adjustments, factory settings, and voltage readings. I would make adjustments then test drive the truck and call back with any changes. In the end the problem was not fixed completely but was one I could live with being I figured a truck pushing five hundred horsepower deserved to be a bit tempermental. Bill took a lot of his time with me and I asked him to send me a bill. His awnser was no charge. I look forward to shaking this mans hand at Thunder in Muncie. I hate to be repetitious but..... this is my personal experience recently...

My experience has been virtually identical to the other fella's who've posted on this.

Apparently the 1st Gens are more of a challenge, and harder to set up for whatever reason.

I just had my 1 year service done. We/they worked on it pretty much all day, all the new components went in, the VB was tweaked and tuned, removed tuned again, and finally removed and a bit of tiddly tuning done to please my needs.

I got free run of the shop, expropriated an office chair and sat talking with Shanti, and Lalita... then out back to hassle Darrin and Vinnie some more.

They drained the original oil, and refilled with new all 3 times, redid the VB settings 3 times (at my request), took me to lunch... I gotta stay away from that spicey food they have on Fridays, but it was fun to go out with the entire crew, and chow down.



I know there has been some pretty ugly turf wars here, but I don't want to go there. I'd just like to say the these folks have one darn heck of a great attitude to their customers, both as customers and as friends.



Now, my little 'ole 93 will rocket thru all the gears including OD and tear rubber in all of them... . I'm getting pretty much 100% value from my performance mods because this system hooks up and sends it to the road were it belongs. .

I refuse to take anything away from other vendors since I do not have personal experience with them, I just hope that they all treat their customers the way DTT treats us... like family!!

Joined the club last night....

Well I joined the DTT club when I picked up my truck from Michigan Performance Diesel (MPD) last night. :D :D :D



Shanti and Stephen from DTT were very helpful with ensuring that I ordered the appropriate equipment, and Greg from MPD has been absolutely excellent to work with from product selection through post installation.

Hi bill i have your comp & dd3s boxed up & ready to go. I pulled the comp out of my truck today & i found the directions for ya as well. I labeled all the wires so it will be easy for you to hook up. Best Bomb....

WOW! I finished the job up by installing the smart controller!



I also removed the EZ (prep for swap), basically leaving the truck stock + modified air intake and exhaust. Now I can understand why so many TDR members have stated that the trans was their best bomb. What an amazing difference.





I wonder how many others are like myself.....



Air Intake & Exhaust (sexy) before Gauges (necessity).....

Minor upgrades (confidence builders)... .

Trans upgrade (necessity) to run higher HP.....



I wonder how many would stop after the trans as a first bomb???





Propuller, you are certainly a fine example of the many awesome TDR members. As a matter of fact, I do not know of any other organization where so much support is extended by so many.
