I almost bought my 09' 3500 from Boerne Dodge in Texas but they tried playing games with me. They pushed the GAP and extended warranties big time. They tried telling me that putting thousands down and paying 3. 99% for 75 months was a better deal than 0% for 72. The truck was more on paper in the finance office than it was supposed to be and they gave me the I thought you wanted the payment to only be so much excuse. There were dealers adds ($1300) on the truck that weren't supposed to be there. Finally the SOB told me the rebate I was losing in lieu of the 0% for 72 was $6000 of the agreed upon discount off MSRP instead of $4500.

I told the finance guy I needed borrow his pen and make a call and walked the hell out of his office. He tried to ask me who I needed to call but walked out abruptly and left him hanging. I headed out the door past the shined up fueled up truck they thought was as good as sold. I called another dealer I had been talking to and got an even better offer.

I walked back to the finance guy standing outside looking like a deer in the headlights, gave him his pen back, and simply said "thanks but I'm buying my truck someplace else". I think he came damn close to crapping in his pants. He had already assumed the deal was as good as done only to see it go up in flames. I jumped in my car and bolted before the guy could think of what to say. Multiple people at the dealer tried to call me but I let my voice mail greet them again and again. Off to Bastrop I went to pick up my new ride.

Call Scott at Benny Boyd in Bastrop if you want a good deal minus the BS.

Sorry to hear that happened to you. I bought my King Ranch from there in May of last year and had a great experience. Joe Mejia was my salesman. I just saw him last Friday, as a matter of fact, and am probably going to trade the King Ranch in for an '05 they just got in.

I do know that the dealership just came under new ownership, so I wonder if that has anything to do with it.

I don't think my sales guy was to blame nearly as much as the finance guy who was trying to line his pockets at my expense. I'm guessing that if I had said yes to everything he was trying to force feed me he would have made an extra grand or two.

One of the mechanics at Benny Boyd in Bastrop is the best I have ever seen. His name is "John". He is a level 4 mechanic which is the highest rating you can get. He is not their diesel mechanic but if you ask for him they will let him work on your truck. The new service manager is a straight arrow so if you have any mod's you might be in for problems. He goes strictly by the book. Congrat's on your new truck!!!!

Good for you. I walked out on a finance guy once too. Makes you feel good. Make sure you call the manager of the dealership and complain.

In the past I've used Andre's Automotive in Bastrop. Chris does good work for me but the turn around time tends to suck. Andre is cool about installing aftermarket parts that he doesn't sell. It really hard to find a place that will install hydro steering, intercoolers, and other parts.

On my 09' I may do an exhaust and air filter but that will be it until I hit 100K. Then I may invest some bucks for the DPF delete kit.

I called Benny Boyd today, to ask about a white 3500 they have. While I didn't like the salesman on the phone at all (had all of the canned sales pitch lines memorized).

Here's the conversation... no crap, damn-near verbatim, imagine the accent for yourself:

Me: Hi, I'm calling about one of your vehicles you have for sale.

Them: Just one moment (crappy hold music playing)

Salesman: Hi this is ****, what can I do fo you today? (r omitted on purpose, read on).

Me: Hi, I'm calling about the white 3500 dually Ram you have for sale, how... (interrupted)

Salesman: Man! Thas a popula truck! You da fif calla to axe about it. It sho is a sweet ride. Whatchu wanna know bout it? (Holy crap, I'm back in inner city Bal'more!)

Me: Well, I'd like to know how much you're asking for it.

Salesman: Well, you know, why donchu come in an we talk bout the price, cause it's gonna be gone soon.

Me: I live in San Angelo, so I can't exactly come right down to look at it, which is why I need to know how much you're as... (interrupted... again)

Salesman: San Antonio ain't that far away, just come on in.

Me: No, you don't understand, I live in San Angelo, not San Antonio, which is... (3rd and last time interrupted)

Salesman: San Angelo, where dat?

Me: Four hours away from you, so now you see why I can't just come in, so how much are asking for the truck?

Well, after that pretty funny exchange (except for being interrupted, which I don't like), he gave me the price, and I have to say that I liked it a lot.

We'll see what my dealer has to say about this 2500. Should get a call tomorrow. The thing it's got going for it is that it's a one-owner (old man), non-smoker and meticulously maintained.

Like I said, we'll see.

Sounds like Tyrone Biggums from the Dave Chappelle show got a job. :)

I don't know, call me crazy, but enunciation should be of paramount importance, when dealing with customers. It has nothing to do with race, because I've talked to some back-woods bubbas who weren't much better in the speaking department.

It was humorous but at the same time says a lot about how bad the public education system has failed.

Still waiting on that call from my dealer at Boerne Dodge...

The problem with prices over the phone is that when you get there, the truck is mysteriously gone... or well, We told you wrong its actually 10K higher. .

Or the truck's been photoshop'd, as was the case with my adventure to Houston last year.

I'm still fuming over that one. #@$%!

Wingate

I can't believe that your so suspicious of a dealers sales tactics :D:D

haha. . Some of the things I read on here and have experienced with auto dealerships and their svc. depts. just leave me shaking my head. Thing is, I work for a Caterpillar dealership in the service dept. and I can honestly say that our salesmen and parts guys would NEVER act like that. i guess thats just the differences in the way that some people conduct business.

It seems like a lot of businesses don't care about the reputation they have. Repeat customers have almost become a thing of the past. I guess they haven't figured out that people talk to each other, in person and on the internet. After treating people poorly they are shocked their business is going down the tubes. I guess the "Golden Rule" doesn't apply to business transactions. Rant done!!!!!!
