Well I took the plunge a few days ago!! Who needs that ole income tax return anyways? Got me a 2500 4X4 oil burner-HO and a six position right "hand rester". Went with the SLT with a whole lot of options. Somebody put a bullet in my foot, I just spent $41,000. 00!! I credit a lot of you guy for the way I ordered my truck. I've read most of the posts and based my decision on other members positive and negative experiences. Just think, I had a "hook up" at Ferd and was sold on a "power-loss-diesel". Thank goodness that I checked out the TDR web site. The Ram appeared to be custom made for me and my needs. And for one, I love the size of the rear seat. 40 percent fewer moving parts on an I-6 with more power and torque; it's a no brainer. It also helped that the wife wanted the truck as well. Got to love her. Stealer wanted $1,180. 00 and three hours labor for the install on the "new" j-brake. Did not go for it but I would like to get it later. Well got a few questions I'll ask later when I get the hang of posting. Thanks again for all the hep y'all.

I would respectfully request you avoid the generic reference, "stealer. " Please feel free to post experiences - good or bad - in detail.

Thank you.

Thanks for the warm welcome guys. As "catcracker" stated, I already had many nights dreaming about all the reasons why this purchase JUST MAKES SENSE. I'm looking forward to owning this well built vehicle for a long, long, time. I bought the extended warranty and I will have the stealer preform all the PM's. I subscribe to the theory that it is OK to "plane a door with a chain saw". So that is why I got a Ho diesel to pull a 2,850 lbs "trailmannor" travel trailer. (next purchase). Our family likes to travel and go camping in "these here United States" a lot. So the Ram just became the Campa's new tow vehicle. My biggest question/concern is the threads I read about extended periods of idling, like at a traffic jam or waiting for the kids at school. Here in Miami, Florida that is all you do. Extended periods of idling with the A/C on is common. Is that "fuel washing into the crankcase" thing I read about a real problem? I don't expect to Idle more than about an hour at a time, several times a week. Any advice? Sorry about the "engine question" here. .

I would respectfully request that you refrain from indiscriminately using the reference, stealer. Posting facts/details is fine - absolutely no problem. If you have any questions regarding this request, please e-mail me at: rpatton@ix.netcom.com.

Thank you.

Joe, your idling will not be a problem, it's the cold weather idling that is the problem with cylinder wash etc. Don't worry the truck will wearout before the Cummins will get to mid life :) Since you are new here is a good site to explore www.dodgeram.org

Thanks "Pit Bull" for the info. Of all the related posts I read on this topic, I could not get a simple answer out of it. I am extremely happy to hear that idling for a while in Miami will not be a problem. I knew I made the right purchase. Thanks again for alleviating my concerns. :)

Joe, congrats on the purchase. Went agianst my father's logic of buying the ford truck. Look forward to showing him the error in his way of going with a powerstrokeless. :-laf Though, for his work it is the only way to get a van with a diesel. Since Chebby is set on using the old 6. 5 in the vans. :{ (at least at the time of his purchasing a 2001 Ferd van. ) Have seen the new Ram /Freightliner vans, wonder if there is a diesel option in one those. Oo.

Just found out tonight that my brother in law that drove a 2002 Ford PSD crewcab SRW just went to the Dodge dealer and traded for a 2003 Dodge 1500 QC. My sister told me that when he tried to back up the Ford the transmission would not engage correctly so he dumped it. My brother in law is not a truck guy. He had 37K miles on the Ford and had never changed the fuel filter. All he knows about vehicles is to turn the key and drive away. Man I bet they skinned him alive on that deal.
