My First Fuel Filter Change

I am ashamed to say after owning my truck for almost 2 years, I finally did the first fuel filter change myself. It was a piece of cake. Now I really realize how bad I got rooked before! Guess I had never done it before because I was paranoid the Hummin Cummins wouldn't fire up.

Now I have to take wife out to dinner with the money I saved! #ad

You lucky dog! Mine came from the factory with boogered up threads, that cause the cap to cross-thread. I've done two changes now, but expect the next change will require a new cap or maybe even filter housing replacement - my last change almost stranded me at the house!

I've done my filter changes and had a hell of a time primimg it back up. also had something get stuck in the drian tube and it caused a little fuel to leak out brought to the dealer thought it was warranty but they charged me. so if it leaks out of that tube take the four screws off of the housing and blow some air in it and should fix the problem thats what the tech at dealership told me.

Paul, you should have said something at our get together! I had 2 spare filters and the tools in the truck.
swampbug, are you loosening the test port when you are priming to give the air somewhere to get out? I have never had a problem firing mine up.

I did my first fuel filter change last night. A whole lot easier, and faster than on my 97. Changed out in less than 10 minutes. The only problem I had was firing it back up. The book says to bump the starter, to fill the canister, and purge the air. I did that, it fired right up, ran for about 5 seconds, then quit. Took several more tries, before it fired up, and ran. The new design makes the change a snap.
I love my truck !!!
