Well, I finally got a chance to throw my truck on the dyno this weekend. The Colorado Powerstroke club was having dyno days up at PFI Performance up in Fort Collins, CO this weekend and a bunch of my buddies were going. I didn't really think the results were going to turn out the way they did. The only mods to my truck is a Donaldson muffler, a drop in AFE, and HOT Juice. Of course I have both the Attitude and a set of Westach analog gauges since I pull a 40' enclosed trailer with this truck, back and forth across the mountains.

Well anyway, I don't have access to the graph yet as I don't have a color scanner here at work and I don't know how to find it on the club's website yet. The dyno is a DynoJet and we ran my truck on settings 3, 4 and 5 since I tow on 3, play on 4, and wanted to see what 5 did. With a stock clutch and turbo, I've only turned the box up on 5 once and only used it in 2nd and 3rd gear as I was sure it would blow through the clutch in 5th or 6th.

Setting 3:

hp = 426. 41

tq = 832. 29

Setting 4:

hp = 463. 54

tq = 895. 82

Setting 5:

hp = 494. 81

tq = 1005. 65

I was stoked when I saw those numbers come up on the screen as I didn't expect anything that high for torque. Oo.

Did you notice any clutch slippage with that?

Didn't notice any but, I'm betting if it wasn't slipping a little, it was darn close on the stock clutch. Next week I will be moth balling the truck as I will be leaving the country for 3 months. When I return, I'm thinking it would be a good idea to begin planning for a new clutch :D

Are those corrected numbers?

I think so. I don't know much about the information provided from a dyno since this is my first run but, at the top of the graph I have sitting in front of me there is an item that says:

CF: SAE Smoothing: 5

Also, there is a variable in the detail information for each run that is SAE: 1. 21

Here is exactly how it is presented for my run on level 5:

RunFile_020. drf - 10/1/2005 9:08:26 AM Run Type: RO Run Conditions: 73. 35 F, 24. 92 in-Hg, Humidity: 25%, SAE: 1. 21

Max Power = 494. 81 Max Torque = 1005. 65

Is that the correction factor then? What all is it correcting for, elevation, barametric pressure, temperature, humidity?

Those are corrected numbers then. The smoothing of "5" is like a filter that eliminated peaks and valleys and will usually lower your numbers slightly (most folks use 3). The fact that you got those numbers on "5" is impressive. SAE: 1. 21 is the correction factor BUT something looks fishy about it... a baro of 24. 92 is only found in the middle of a hurricane or at high altitude and leads me to believe that their atmospheric data was off. Nice numbers either way. Uncorrected numbers would be 1. 21 x hp. In other words... . uncorrected numbers are the numbers you actually made on that day, with those atmospherics. Uncorrected numbers are what pushes you down the track on any given day.

after seeing that you're in Denver... that explains the low baro.

Cool, thanks for the info. As for the baro, I believe that the dyno is sitting right at about 6000 ft of elevation. I think Fort Collins is just a little higher than Denver.

in fact, considering your high altitude, I believe the correct formula for actual HP would be HP/1. 21. You actual HP/TQ was likely lower and the correction factor raised it. Either way, still sick numbers.

Actually, this dyno is in Ft Collins, and it's high altitude (over 5K iirc).

Camp, I remember your truck. I was the guy in grey t-shirt and painter's jeans who ostensibly was helping strap trucks on the dyno, but ended up in reality just BSing with all the good guys who came to dyno:)

Clean install on the Westachs, too. SWEET truck! Great numbers.

I would like to know what airbox/filter combo you have and what is the status of your exhaust. I'm guessing you have the stock lift pump as well? Those numbers are crazy with stock clutch and turbo. I will be dynoing mine next weekend.

I figured the 180 HP setting would be putting out more than 31 extra horspower than the 100HP setting.

It is funny you say that. I still have the box that my Juice came in and it was one of the first out. My box says that the Juice had 125 HP on the top setting. Either way, I know what you are saying but, since there are very few mods on the truck, I think you can expect to get less than optimum performance from the unit. I don't think my truck breaths well enough to take full advantage of the available power since the HOT program was designed to be used on a fairly modified/bomb'd truck.

The air filter is just an AFE drop in. I have pulled the silencer baffles out of the tube to the turbo but, that is all the mods on the intake end.

The exhaust has a Jacob's exhaust break in it and I replaced the stock muffler with the 51" Donaldson. I don't have the part number for it handy but, it is the one with the single baffle in it, 4" in/4" out. No other mods with the exception of a slightly turned tip to help keep the soot off the truck and trailer.

Thanks guys, I can't tell you how pleased I was when I saw those torque numbers. I didn't expect to see much over 800.
