I was tired of my wimpy braking so I decided to rework all four corners with new one ton slave cylinders and shoes in the back and new cryo treated/ slotted rotors in the front w/ferro carbon disc pads.
Being a spaz and not reading the forum (went by Haynes manual only) I proceeded to split one of the front axel bearings getting my front end apart.
Wait, it gets better... When I pulled the axel nut off the driver side the threads galled and ate the stub axel & nut. I called the dealer and they wanted $314 for the stub axel and $28 for the nut :--) The good news
is that I contacted Six states Distributing and talked to Rick and was able to purchase both for $89 with shipping!!! Pulling out the charge card again I called QUAD 4X4 and was able to purchase the hub bearings for about $400 cheaper than dealer wanted and they come with new studs. While I'm at it I decided to put in new U-joints and have everything from the diff out new (hoping I won't have to repeat this process for the next 130,000 miles).
The moral of this $1. 000 story is this... I will without question read this forum before I ever start a project like this before and thank you suppliers out there that are so helpful and are willing to supply parts at a REASONABLE profit to us in our times of need.
