My 2nd Gen 3500 4x4 auto (other details and modifications in the sig profile below) has been acting kind of funny recently. On two separate occasions in the last couple of weeks, just when I least expected it, the engine revs begin to rise slowly and independently of my "go pedal" whilst I've been pulling away into traffic at regular speeds upto 30mph

I noticed it the first time and wondered why I was picking up speed with my foot off the accelerator, so I stand on the brake and the engine rpm is still rising to about 1150/1200rpm and shows no sign of levelling off, so I just killed the ignition. I was ready the second time and exactly the same thing happened and I was able to kill the ignition again. Then after waiting 30 secs, I started up and it's back to normal, on both occasions. Weird?

Checked all the regular stuff and nothing obvious giving me cause for concern. Just wondering if anyone else has come across this scenario - Please tell me this is not the slippery slope for a flaky lift pump... . :( In all other respects everything is working flawlessly with almost 60k miles on the odometer. and nothing special to report back on the gauges plus no codes popping either... ... .

Suggestions, pearls of wisdom all welcome. I ran a quick search on the TDR but didn't come up with much.

Cheers guys.

APPS widget location?

Thanks Keith; Any idea how I can confirm if this is actually the case? I don't have my service manual handy right now - where is that darn APPS widget located?

APPS

Hi John how's it going ?

The APPS or TPS is located on the top of the engine over the VP close to the fan. It's that thing with a black plastic shield on it.

It's the one where the throttle , kick down cable and CC servo cables are connected to.

Inside that mystery object are a pot and a couple of switches. Often it's enough to clean it with a contact cleaner spray.

Give it a good shoot... .

Going through the same thing lately. I called Cummins about just buying the guts instead of the whole part from dodge($442). They said must buy module from dodge. :( :( think I'll try cleaning it.
