Here are some pics of my almost rust free bed I paid $75 for. Only bad rust is above passenger side wheelweel. The tailgate that came with it was white, so I reused my beat up rusty old gate. I spray painted it silver to hide the ugly.
im guessing your bed with the rust had a dropin bed liner in it? The 92 i picked up back in Nov. it has a 91. 5 yr bed and under on it, excellent condition, the kid found it in a junk yard, solid as a rock.
In the 3. 5 years I've had the truck it never had a dropin bed liner. It could have had one with a previous owner. It was pretty much shot when I got it. From the looks of the rust pattern and such, looks like this new bed had one. I wonder how much money in scrap I have here??
yep those dropin bed liners were notorious for rotting out a truck bed, especially if your bed didn't have drain holes in it. You did good on the bed... my thing was i wanted to put the outer moulding back on this 92 but can't due to the cab and bed being different years and the moulding on the 92 being above the seam line and on the bed the mounting holes are below the seam line.
I am glad I don't live in snow country. My frame has crusties on it from the 2 or 3 trips I've made in the snow. I couldn't imagine it spending all of its time in that stuff. I'd definately have a "winter truck".
If I didn't have a drop in bedliner the bed would be useless... there are holes you could easily put a boot through in mine. It's got plenty of drain holes... . BGilberts truck actually doesn't look too bad in the rust department compared to most I see in IL/IN. I'm looking for a rust free 1/2 ton body donor for mine... :-laf
