I recently had ATS install thier triple disc lock-up converter in my truck. I can say with out a doubt that service was top notch, and now my transmission is top notch too. Acceleration from a stop is brisk and without any lag, shifts are crisp and clean. Lock-up is like nothing else I have experinced and I never thought I would see engine breaking with an auto transmission. It really does drive like a different truck now. There is no doubt that this was the best money I have spent on my truck.

Don and Clint were friendly and knowledgeable. If you have questions about thier product I highly recomend you give them a call.

I am not affiliated with ATS in any way. Just a very satisfied customer.

ATS

Stakeman you pulled the trigger. I went to the ATS shop last week and talked to them about my trans. I could not agree with you more. Don and Clint are not only nice guys they know what there are talking about. I am next!

Please feel free to ask any questions you have, when it comes to design questions about the design of our product we may not explain it at this time. I don't thank this has been a problem or will be.

Hey Clint- I was following the other thread about your tc. After thinking about it, it seems like as long as there wasn’t much pressure pushing on the clutch plates, that the oil in the tc would keep them apart as long as they where moving. Sort of like the bearings in an engine. There is tremendous pressure on the crank, yet it stays separated from the bearings in the block somehow. I think that the same principal would apply to the clutches. As long as there is a difference in speed between the two surfaces and not too much pressure, then the oil should keep them separate right?

Stakeman, glad to hear you are happy. There are several more of the ATS trannies going in soon too that I know of, maybe even one in mine:eek: . Keep feeding us data if you would on how it behaves and any ups or downs you see with it.

Oh, BTW, what is the Comp on 5X5 like?

Bob, you know very well this is not acceptable. Please don't make this an issue again.

Thanks,

Sorry I did not post sooner. I was indeed out driving the truck. I knew I was going to have a lot of questions to answer here and I wanted to be prepaired.

With ATS I have the benifits of both, efficeint fluid coupling and a lockup clutch that can handle any HP or load I throw at it. The DTT setup is nice but it was not for me. I rode in one and did not like the way it made the engine bog down when accelerating from a stop. The ATS TC doesn't do that. It allows the engine to build some torque before it puts the load on it. Do not think that thier TC is not efficeint though. When you put it in gear you better have your foot on the brake! From a stop at idle my truck accelerates quickly to 10 mph. That is where my truck would shift to second gear because I have 4. 10s.

The PE Comp on 5x5 is like:eek: :D  Oo.

I can now make fair amounts of smoke without smoking my transmission.

You better keep that BD stuff Swamp Donkey. :D

If you have any questions please feel free to ask. I will do my best to anwser them.

Give them some time....

I think if you give ATS some time, they will prove they have a good product like DTT did when they first came out. I have been set on a DTT untill the other day when I started reading some feedback from customers onATS, not to mention the rumors I hear about what will happen in a couple of weeks. :D ;) :p Now I don't know what to do, just sit and wait to see what happen with the companies I guess.

Looking for Sponsorship :D,

Andrew

Bob, I want lockup without worry of damaging the transmission, that is my primary reason for looking at the ATS. I want the lockup for acceleration in all gears, low temps, and for use with an exhuast brake. BTW, they are not just sending out a TC and a VB to throw into your transmission and call it done, they have a system that addresses the entire transmission. As you probably remember from our past conversations my power is very similar to what you are running, not huge power by any stretch but a good strong truck. This brings me to the second "big +" IMO for the ATS setup, the stall of their convertor is roughly between the stock TC and the high efficiency TC like you run. It is a CNC machined stator with efficiency in fluid coupling that is worlds better than stock, yet not so tight as to have a lot of lag off the line. A slightly higher stall makes for lower temps in heavy traffic that I drive in daily, and is more useable for getting heavy trailers moving easily as well. Lag and lots of smoke are not something I want to deal with any more than absolutely necessary, and the ATS solution should be more friendly in those regards. I hope to make it out to see ATS facility and to drive their trucks later this week, but am mot sure I am going to be able to. If I do I will have more information, but as it stands I am prepared to send them my money. The very best of both worlds ( fluid coupling and lockup) is kinda hard to ignore.
