I recently lost the airbox but was wondering how everyone has been fastening down their K&N filters. Just doesn't seem right to just let it lay there on the fenderwells. Any suggestions?

P. S. Do not really want to cut into the cowling for a sycottie or others alike. Also, new member and first time post. Thanks!

I glued a small round piece of ethafoam to the end of the RE-880, about 2" long. Then I cut some blocks of foam to fit in the corner near the door hinge, and cut a round depression in those blocks for the end piece to rest in. Seems to work well; been there about 9 months and haven't had to reglue.

I just installed mine yesterday and the filter fits in the corner so tight I didn't think it would go and it is not about to move or go anywhere. I bought and used a 4" - 3" PVC reducer and had to cut about 3/4 " off each end so the filter unit would even go at all.

Do you think we can make the 0880 quieter if we build a stainless L piece to put over it? The L piece would be the length of the filter, maybe a little longer & attach to the fenderwell on the bottom & on the side of the engine compartment, right over the 0880, as high as possible so as not to interfere with the hood.

Hey Chipstein

welcome to the TDR

Thanks for the ideas everyone. Hey Bob, might be out riding at Belfair this weekend but let me know what time the gates open in case things don't go down that way. :)

When I had just the 0880 before the Psychotty, the end of the filter fit snug up against the corner of the cowl without bouncing or anything. I did put a sliced open piece of vacuum line on the edge of that curved bracing so it wouldn't rub into the filter.

yes it needs to be propped up , i left mine just hanging and it rubbed thru a pleat or two vibrating against the smooth flat surface of the heat sheild i made and secured to the bolts that held the stock airbox in place .

forrest , as far as it making the whine quieter with this in place , not for me it didn't , but mines made of a scrap piece of thin alum i had laying around and has a couple cutouts to clear the a/c lines and shock stud , need to make a rev b version when i find the time ...
